| Is there a difference between Camaro and Firebird shrouds for single electric fans? Also, are V6 and V8 the same? |

As for my Camaros, the 3.1 and 5.0 are the same, even the radiators. The 2.8 has a smaller radiator, so the upper and lower fan brackets/radiator supports are different. _________________ 92 Camaro

The problem we're having is that the fan is binding on John's '86 Trans Am. The motor in the old fan was burnt up, and the upper radiator support was cracked, so I snagged the fan and shroud off of that '84 Z28 in the junkyard.
It looks the same as the one that came out, and is binding up when I bolt it in. The shrouds also look the same as in James' Z28. That's making me think that bird shrouds are shorter, and we've got the wrong one. |

I posted this question on TGO as well, as I couldn't find anything on the topic. _________________

Hawks lists the same upper shroud for Camaro and Firebird 84-92. No listing for lower shroud.
Hawks wants $99 plus shipping for just that upper shroud, a piece I paid three dollars for at the yard. F**k Hawks.
Turdgenranch just has a listing for the fan, and they list it as 82-92 which I know is wrong, so f**k them too. |

No binding in my '84 Z28 and I'm using an '87 Firebird shroud. Dual fans though. Using a 2.8 Camaro shroud for single fan in my bro's T/A and there's no rubbing there either. So I've tried all combos of these cars and fans that work fine in every way:
2.8 Camaro single fan and shroud
5.0 TPI T/A dual fan and shroud
'87 2.8 Camaro
'84 Z28

| So that means either damage to a hardpart, or incorrect installation. |

looks like a previous owner jacked the car up under the radiator...about an inch bent...aaron ziptied it until we can remove the radiator and bend it back into shape. _________________

Umm... yeah, it was a previous owner. I'm going with that... _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

What was the fan binding on? It's been awhile since I saw a single fan car. (my 87 bird). _________________

With the radiator support pushed up in the center, the fan shroud is bowing outwards (center is moving closer to the rad). That turns a circle into an oval, and the fan binds up.
We already smoked one motor before we realized it was seized. |
