So this bit of news will shock everyone.... Tonight I started to lay down new carpet in the Firebird. The rear interior is mostly put back together and I have the rear seats ('98 Trans Am leather) placed. I'm going to let the front carpet relax for a little while before I decide where to make cuts.

Remember, I had to strip the car down to metal to clean and disinfect after the mouse infestation. All the interior parts have been sitting in a pile for so long that I may end up posting a few pictures and asking, "What is this, and where does it go?" Laughing

Wow! Progress at last. Does this mean that you made the deal on the SBC and are moving forward?

No, the other guy will probably think about this for a while before making a decision. He's a meticulous planner. Today I let him know that I'm ready to swing a deal.

Have you been too busy trying to come up with a Class 8 Kitty Engine for current models?

LOL naw... the emissions standard from the a-holes at the EPA is rediculous.

Other manufacturers have added another system to the exhaust aftertreatment in the effort to further reduce NOx emissions. There will be a "diesel exhaust fuel" at the fuel pumps that goes into a special tank. That fuel gets injected into a special "catalytic converter" for lamens terms.

Aparently Cat found it better to run it all through EGR. EGR's on modern diesels are already a PITA and overly complicated. Fail regularly on all models, and yeah.

Just makes me wonder how obnoxious the EGR setups without the SCR function will be.

Paul, is this setup different then the uria injection crap they were messing with? Basically the point of all is to try and clean the particulate filter as the engine is running at cruise speed, right?

Way to complex for me in any case. All I know is the pedal on the IDI turns up the pump, black soot gets blown everywhere, and I'm happy. Very Happy

The SCR (selective catalytic reduction) is for reducing NOx emissions. It injects urea fluid into the exhaust stream.

Love the drawing. Very Happy

I'm with stupid

DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is another junk of shizzle that's infront of the SCR, to clean the soot.

Just like the 80's..... 25 years from now truck will be pulling all the restrictive "vacuum lines and bs emissions stuff off."

Just like early EGR systems, these new systems are awkward and probably not reliable. Over time the car companies will get better at it until you don't even care that it is on board. For example, would you rather drive a '70 350 powered car, or a LSx Camaro? One is way cleaner and more efficient than the other.... and a hell or a lot more powerful too. The downside that will remain is cost will go up.

Did the most gross job of all and cleaned the duct work and heater box. NASTY!!!!! Anyway, the dash is mocked up and I'm trying to figure out where all the wires were routed and secured. Making progress! Smile

According to tradition, I have a screw left over after installing the duct work. Wouldn't be right if I didn't.

There's bins for all those extra parts. Comes in handy down the road when you need "just one little screw". Razz

You'll find out where it should have gone once its all back together and it HAS to be there, and you cant quite get it to fit without taking something apart. At least thats the way it works at my house Embarassed
