Now that i kinda have some money flow back and i noticed my brakes are about shot on my Bird now. I know alot of you have done the swap to the newer style. I either would like a list of parts i need or a web link so i can start gathering parts. Oh yea and its for fronts for now i wanna swap axles for the rear disk later. thanks guys.

A few of us have done the LS1 front brake swap. I have just to buy the pads now. I did the LT1 rear disk's, iansane has done the LS1 rear. No sense in getting a new axle just for the brakes. Easy peasy swap those rears are.

First step in upgrading the front will be to get the bracket design from someone (myself or TGO) and to get a spare set of front rotors that you can turn the rotors off of to make the hubs.

There's a guy over on trying to get a group buy on C5 brackets. Price would be $40, which is less than half of what I paid for mine. After that, for the C5 swap, you'll need calipers & cages, pads, rotors and a set of hubs.

And bigger wheels, if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah, bigger wheels too. They'll clear some 16" wheels, 17" for sure.

I doubt it, I would guess that for C5 brakes, you will need 17". Now, you can use a C5 caliper, with LS1/4thgen rotor and brackets, and that I think should clear a 16"

Ok i just kinda wanted to maintain my stock sixteens i kinda like them. I suppose i should have said that in the beginning.

So the brackets are pretty avalable then ? I'm about to get another f.a. check soon and i want to start upgrading my brakes and suspension.

When Ian was selling his C5 fronts I talked to Ed (can't remember his last name) on TGO who does all the brake swap stuff.

He told me that an LS1 rotor and C5 caliper would fit under an IROC wheel, but that for the trouble I would be better just doing an LS1 front swap straight up.

Aaron, that suprises me, considering the known issues with LS1 calipers spreading under heavy use. Lots of LS guys swap to the C5 caliper for that very reason.

He mentioned the spread issue specifically. However I told him that the car was street and not an auto-x or anything, and that I was looking to get the swap done on the cheap, which I think probably tipped his advice towards the LS1 stuff.

What kind of racing? Depending on teh kind of racing, different brake upgrades may change your car's classification.

I love the design and size of the C4 HD but I hate the pin fit retention. It's super easy, but the slightest out of true in the rotor and the bastards squeek!

Go big or go home damnit! Laughing The LS1s will also give you a large piston, for what it's worth... (edit, larger compared to the c5s)

If you've keeping your stock 16s then c4HDs, LS1s, LS1 bracket w/ C5, or even the wilwoods that mike has are about your only options.

hehe yeah. The C4HD BARELY fit IROC wheels. I don't know if they'll clear the bird tapered wheel.

I thought the crosslace wheels are the only ones that are tapered?

The only thing I tried was my wilwood setup. Did the LS1's on my stock irocs and John's 15" rally wheels only.
