Iam playing with the idea of taking the built motor out if the 87z TPI and putting it into the 88TBI car, Can I Run the big cammed motor with a TBI intake on top of it?
How would it run
What kind of mods would have to be done?
thanks

It takes some work with the computer. How big of a cam are you talking, and on how big of a motor? Best bet with TBI, is to get a carb single plane intake, then an carb to TBI adaptor plate, and use that.

350 .060 over small chamber 305 HO heads, 52cc, ported, put big stainless valves in, had to bore out some of the side walls in heads so its a bit more than 52 now.
74 cc dished pistons
Around 10/1 compression.
Lt4 hot cam roller, 1.5 stainless roller rockers
useing 26lb injectore in the tpi.
took alot of work to get it to run Ok, as far as the computer goes.
there was alot of help from a few people here on the programming.
But was thinking about running it in the TBI, just do a intake swap.
will it run???
thanks

You are going to need bigger TBI injectors. It is going to also take a significant amount of programing. You might be better off swaping in the TPI computer, instead of reusing TBI on that motor.

Ya thats what I thought.
The kid wants that other motor in, But I have been telling him NO, not yet.
Maybe in the fall. Seeing how gas is way up there.
The TBI are MAP correct?
Id rather not do all the crying about how I can't get the car running to you guys anyway (again). At least the TPI set now runs OK...
He will have to wait.
thanks

Yes, TBI is a MAP system, Paul and I have a good amount of experiance tuning TBI, We could probably help you get it running. But I think you would be happier with MPI on that system, instead of TBI.

Well, heck! I have a Holley Pro-Jection 4Di digital system that I've been trying to sell for years! 4-barrel throttle body 900 cfm. Rated for engines between 350Hp and 500Hp. I recommend at least 400Hp. I only used it for about 200 miles on my '68 El Camino before I parked it forever. The system is in the box and ready to go except for needing a new O2 sensor, only because the threads were cross-threaded by the monkey that installed it. Also, I changed the fuel ports from the barbed hose fittings to -AN fittings (much better).
PM me if you are interested. It's not the latest gizmo you can buy but it's good enough and won't empty the wallet as bad.
