Have you had any problems passing WA emissions? Right now I'm plotting at least a vaugue layout of the engine buildup for this car, and I am wanting to stick with the HSR so I don't have to tear out the entire ECM and wiring harness. However I have to pass three more inspections before 2011 when I hit the magic 25 year mark.

So if I run an HSR on a 350 with no cat, can I pass WA state emissions?

HAHA emissions... The people got really mad at me when I took mine to get tested. I was over twice the legal limits on all four tests. They gave me the look of "Why are you driving that automobile that is killing o-zone and so bad for the environment?" I was like, because it is the funnest, coolest, most badass car ever, and its your hairspray that is killing the ozone more! Owned!

well im no emissions expert, but i think having no cat will fail you automatically
the HSR has no provision for the EGR valve either
ive always licensed my car somewhere where i dont have to do emmisions
maybe Twilightoptics (Paul) or someone else that has actually ran it thru can answer with more info

You need to have that thing tuned INCREDIBLY well.

Don't worry about the manifold, I don't know that anywhere in WA tests for EGR emissions NOx. If they do, you might have to do some research on how to tune around that specifically.

If you have lots of power and a big cam, there's no way.

I needed TWO cats on my rig (See post) to pass.

So I just welded up two cats, passed, and put my previous exhaust back on. I didn't tune anything to do it, when I put the cats on.

I have a cat for visual, but no smog pump. I belive it's gutted, but since I didn't do it myself I can't say for sure. It's passing fine now with the stock TPI and an open exhaust. I'm just wondering if dropping the EGR is going to make it fail.

I don't know for sure what was done to it, but it snaps like it doesn't have on at all, and the case looks like it might have been a little hacked up.

Right now I'm out of money, so anything I do will have to wait, but I'm thinking of building up a 355, and running AFR heads with a Stealth Ram and a shortter cam. Then, if budget allows, go for forced induction. It just occured to me that I could buy the HSR and run it on my L98 before building up the entire engine.

http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/air/cars/emischeckfaqs.htm

5-24 years old. After that, you're exempt from the testing, at least in this state. You've probably got one more test in '07, assuming your username is current and you have an '83.

Oh and to quote somone, use the "Quote" button above their message.

Different counties in WA will have different regulations, as well as cities. So you'll need to check. It's easy to have a gutted cat on for emissions.

A 355 with AFR heads and HSR Will not pass DEQ without a cat.

What do you mean a "shorter cam?"

I've never been visually inspected.

If your area does not check for NOx, then having no egr on a stock setup wont make any difference.

Wrong. Multnomah County and Clackamas County test for NOx. I know this because I was with John several times at stations in both, trying to get his car to pass.

In Vancouver you need DEQ. Run up to Amboy (same county) and you don't need DEQ.

You have to find out what's the law in your direct registeration area.

Brain fart. I meant milder. Rolling Eyes

In Pierce I belive they check for only CO% and PPM. Been awhile since I studied one of the readouts.

They do Nox as well.

I was going to register it in pierce but decided to just register it in kitsap and skip the hassle. Smile

It's a moot point anyway. By the time I save up enough money to build an engine worth putting in the car, I'll be lucky if it's not a pile of rust. Sad

Theoretical: Lets say I just to the HSR swap onto the stock L98 now, leaving the stock injectors and TB and just replacing the intake manifold, plenium, and rails. Could I pass with that?

Laughing I'm a long way off just yet. About a week after I bought the car I quit my job, and while my new job pays more, I'm only working about 25 hours a week, so cash is a bit tight right now.

I'm also debating whether the Stealth Ram is a good combo for a twin turbo app. I haven't seen a lot of people successfully use it, most opt for the Accel DFI, Mini-ram, Super-ram, ect.

I like the idea of being able to run my stock ECU, but I don't want to buy an HSR, and then have it be a bottleneck a couple years down the road.
