| I got mine from the seller prostreetlighting on ebay. They have the blue leds. But the headlight bulbs blow on low. |

The headlight bulbs are fine. It's the pattern of the cheap ebay housings. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

| Don't do HID's unless you do the proper housings and aiming for them. All you do is blind oncoming drivers, without giving yourself any usable light. |

Many of the H4 conversions are misidentified as HID, or as having the HID look. Again, most not much good. _________________ 92 Camaro

| No one really makes housing for our cars, but you could build a housing, then use a projector with the proper D2S or H1 for the projector being used. Headlights are designed for a certain bulb. Putting an HID bulb in a housing for something, just scatters light all over, it doesn't light the road any better. |

| If I got my info correct, HID lights require a projector, what is called a Bi-Xenon might work in an H4 housing with the right type of reflector. |

there are several types. D2R bulbs are meant to be used in a reflective housing (think STi type headlights), but are different than say an H4, so they dont really work right in an H4 housing. D2S are for projector housings (think Audi/BMW type headlights). The projectors are just much easier to retrofit with. bi-xenon's just mean that using the same housing, they move the aim-point of the light to provide the hi-beam, instead of using a second bulb. Normally this is done with a noid that opens the cut-off shield used on the low-beam.

I haven't seen many H4 to HID back to back. All I can say, is if you are upgrading to an H4 housing.... DO NOT CHEAP OUT on the housings. Plus, you need to run relays to operate the headlights, so all the extra power form the H4 doesn't ruin your headlight switch.
I can't imagine HID retrofitted into an H4 housing, being any brighter than a properly equipped H4 bulb...... in a good H4 housing. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Hella, and Cibie make good housings for our cars. I just got a complete H4 relay conversion for my firebird from Daniel Stern.
Fantastic site, TONS of info on lighting.
And its all plug and play, no cutting of my stock wiring harness, and still uses the orignal switches.
I opted for Cibie housings, 75 bucks a piece, but Hella are good construction as well, and a lot cheaper.
And I will be running a 90/100w bulb.
But as was said before, HID is a waste of time unless you have the proper housings etc for them.
Also those ebay diamond cut ones, are absolute garbage. They scatter the light everywhere, blinding the other drivers, and do nothing for your visability. And actually in heavy rain, you have NO visability. I know a few people that have used them and taken them back out the next day, because they look cool, but dont actually help for visability. _________________ 1987 - Trans am GTA, hooker headers, Borla catback, Cat delete, CAI, 9.6 @ 75mph 1/8mile

i got cheap ebay halo housings and bought h4 HID's and they are aimed fine, and are wayyyyy brighter than stock H4 and visibility is wayyy better
im kinda confused with the proper housing thing cause i have no problems with mine, nobody flashes me for brightness or anything and my friends who have seen me driving say it doesnt blind them, im sorry its just hard for me to agree with all this stuff because i have HID's in diamond cut ebay housings and they are totally fine, SUPER bright, visability is amazing, im totally satisfied with my setup _________________

As far as I know there is ONE company that makes a 4656 replacement with bi-xenon HID setup. Last I looked it was ~$550 for a single headlight. There is a guy on TGO that does retrofits for people. Pretty affordable too, I think. 84 1LE; http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/auto-detailing-appearance/522825-projector-retrofit-inside-w.html
I have HIDs in a freeform housing and I like it. A good bit brighter than my previous high output H4s from rallylights.com (which put out a significant more lumens than a standard H4 at similar wattage). I'd love to do an HID retro but I'm having a hard time finding an OEM projector that will fit in a firebird headlight. The DDM HID kit I have uses a shield that blocks a lot (no where near all) of the upward light that scatters. |
