Alright I'm going to be ordering an HID lamp setup for my projector fog lights and I can't decide what color to get. I've always heard the yellow (3K) are the best for adverse weather conditions (which are pretty common around here!) and I do like that look. Reminds me of newer Lexus cars and such. However, I kind of want them to match the white color the headlights which are 6K. What would the crew do? Very Happy

I have been thinking about this myself. My preference leans toward matchy matchy.

I have the Hella dual fog/driving setup with H3 bulbs, not projectors but they do what I want (for now Cool ). I have a set of 2500K yellows in the fog reflectors and 5150K white in the driving reflectors. I bought the bulbs after the fact since the lights came standard with the same warm white bulbs for each application. I use the yellow fog lights for night time fog/rain/snow and the white for everything else. Since these don't shine as high as my headlights, I also have the white lights wired to be daytime running lights, disabled with the light switch and overridden by a separate switch in the dash to select either pair (but not both).

Aimed properly, the white lights should do everything you need. Yellow has been considered to reduce glare from water droplets in the beam, but I've also read that it doesn't really matter which color you use.

They're HIDs, so you kind of HAVE to choose a color temp. Smile

I remember you're setup with the new lights and I *though* you had yellows for the fogs but I couldn't remember. And I definitely can't remember what they look like. Laughing

How often do you really drive in really nasty weather? I drove Tim's old S4 in some HEAVY snow, with really nasty fog one night, and I actually had to turn the HID headlights off, the reflection back from the fog/snow mix was too much, and I couldn't see anything. I drove on nothing but the marker-lamps.

That said, I have maybe only really driven in conditions that white lights were not usable in, 2-3 times in my entire life. None of those conditions would I have been in an f-body in. For 99.9% of driving, long reaching, high temp lights work well.

True. Although, I wasn't looking at it as yellow lights would be better than whire when I can't use headlights at all. I was more looking at it as, if yellow is supposedly better why not use it all the time?

Ala Delalum vs poly vs rubber. (HID yellow vs HID white vs halogen).

I was deeming "nasty weather" as even hard rain I guess? Shrug Actually, the fog lights I have are factory Denali units so I'm not sure of their exact spray pattern. For what it's worth, anytime I hop in the car the marker lights/fog lights are on. When it gets dark the headlights come on.

Because white light is more "natural". But, lots of Le Mans and racing cars, use yellow driving and headlights for night racing. So, there may be something to using all yellow light.

Anything to the blue side of the spectrum causes more glare. To the red end is less glare. If you drive in reflective conditions like fog or snow, then you should see better with yellow.

It seriously makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. If we could get a few more races like that (sans wreckage and penalties) ALMS might get some popularity in the normal folk.

So I should get some red lights? Ooohh, evil. Very Happy

You have no idea. If I ever find my high school guidance councilor, we are going to have words. There are a whole list of careers I should have gone after....

my camaro still has oem lights, but i i went wiht the bosch conversion housings on my dodge ram and PIAA H4's super white 6500kelvins. they are absolutley amazing for normal driving, but in the fog or snow the reflection back on the eyes is intense and a set of low kelvin lamps sure would make for better driving and less strain...

ya gotta ask ur self how much ya drive at night and in adverse conditions?

This is my daily driver. Well, ONLY driver. And I was driving it through our last snow burst a few days ago. I'm not afraid to blast down the road at WOT through the snow. (top down Laughing )

Does the yellow help in rain as well as snow/fog or just the crazy weather patterns? It sounds like I should just order the 6000K kit.

I think my counselor is the only reason I graduated. I can't count the number of times I heard, "Ian, if you fail another class because you're out in the parking lot messing with your car you won't graduate!"

*quarter later*

"Ian! If you fail another class..."
