it can only be a few thinks and they all require one to pull door apart.
can motor be weak,?
spring counterbalance weak?
bushing rollors bad?
dirt?
questions is, what is the most common cause for the windows to start slowing down and then u have to "help" the glass up, etc.?
and of course any fixs to above.
since i have doors striped for painting, might as well take care of these other issues.
thanks

| Motor usually, though you can help them out for awhile by lubing the tracks and using silicone in the channels. |

If you've got everything striped out, re wire the window motors. Run the PW switches to some heavy duty relays and 10g+ wiring. The stock stuff is like 12 or 14g? That coupled with a NEW motor and you should have some decently quick windows (as compared to a regular thirdgen).
For motors I had used cardone's reman a couple times and tried a siemens brand new one for just a couple dollars more and it was a night and day difference, quiter, smoother, faster. _________________

just looked at what it takes to install new PW motor. its like a hole summer long job just for the doors..
I may have to farm some of this work out. i hate that. but it seems like a daunting task to completly strip out the door, BUT wait u have to put it all back together(right) and then "adjust" window etc. etc. etc.
so who has done this job and knows the short cuts??
and NO i donot what to use a plasma cutter on the outer door panel..
OK im there bitching, i could have been done by now.
thanks Mike |

| About the time you get the job done you have it down to a science and its easy.. then you'll forget all about how its done by next time. |

Get a rivit gun larger than the ones from ace or other hardware store. Got mine from Harbor Freight for like 15.00
First one did with out the correct rivts. Used bolts and self locking nuts
PITA then got the rivit gun speeded up the process. They even supply rivits for the gun

^ This x eleventy-billion.
Personally I would try rewiring them first and see what that gets you, unless the motor is actually stopping and you have to pull the window up. |

| Havent had to do this yet but both of my cars have slow drivers side windows. Can you jump 12 volts ( spare battery) straight to the window motors to test them before rewiring? |

Yup. Just remember that they're two wire motors, not three, so reverse polarity to reverse the motor. |

i replaced the cheap nuts and bolts that came with motor with good grade hardware and locktite with lock nuts, I hope thats enough.

Most common cause for window motor failure in a thirdgen is the driver hooting at equally classy women. Other common causes are spitting, and Taco Bell drive thru. The window operating duty cycle is way beyond anything GM ever planned for. |

Qwktrip, you would be suprised at what class of chic you can pull with a clean 3rd gen Well, 15 years ago you could do it, not sure about today. I met my wife becuase she cut me off while racing a 911 on Rose Hill in Kirkland 15 years ago. I didnt know it was a ditzy blond chic driving the slow RX7 with deep tinted windows when I pointed to the Al's auto parts parking lot. 1 month later that POS RX7 was gone and she had a 95 Firebird. |
