Hurst eh? Why not go with the Pro 5.0? I can't remember, does the Hurst have positive stops?

You may have to pull the tail and swap the gear on the mainshaft itself depending on what kinda speedo gear/reluctor yours has.

Goodluck

To answer your question paul, the hurst does have positive stops.

Where you score the trans from Derek?

Nice! Now I can get some practice for when I do the swap. So here's the deal. You get to use my shop after my car passes DEQ.

I went to the classic U pull it- U save in Boring, watched as they pulled it out of an '85 Z28.

Is it going to be big problem using the speed sensor in it?

Not a problem at all if you can find one. I had a hell of a time finding one for Jenn's Birdie. It goes right in the trans, pull the speedo gear and install the sensor. I should have another one if your interested.

Aren't the bullets different from auto to T5?

Rod, was Jenns a gear driven or a tone wheel? The later ones went tone wheel I don't know when.

He'll have to pull his out. If it's geared, it should be a blue 7 tooth drive gear, and a std VSS gear bullet.

Yes, the auto speed sensor is differant. The Firebird T5 sensor goes right in place of the cable drive. When we did her car it was imposible to find one, napa had a part number but said it couldn't be ordered. I wound up buying a V6 T5 from the junk yard for $100 cause it had the speed sensor in it. Last year I junked a V6 5spd bird and saved the speed sensor out of it.

I would be interested, I am looking to get this project going this weekend though, so I may do a upull it run tomarrow and see if I can find one. You live in southern Oregon right?

Sensor should work weather its from a V8 or V6?

So my shifter came today, its looking and feeling good!
Also went to the junk yard today to seach for a bullet, I got out to Sherwood, they had an '89 V6 'bird with a 5 spd that had the thing in it, and I didn't bring the right tool to take it out... So mad I can't see straight

But enough rant, heres some pics of the shifter and the speedo gear on the right is what came out of the trans, the gear on the left is the one Chris gave me that should be calibrated for my 3.73's
