I'm coming to the conclusion that using 1.6 rockers with a voodoo cam is a no/no. Seems I fixed my rocker stud breakage problem, only to break a valve spring this time. Idling through town at 20mph no less. I'm really hoping that the spring didnt stack and wipe my cam. The pushrod appears unbent though, so I think i'm good.
These are the springs recommended by lunati for my camshaft. Coil bind is at 1.06..I figured out I have 0.088 extra space. Summit tech recommended 0.060 extra, he also recommended the same spring again. So I should be good. Springs are pretty stiff though, with my 0.522 lift the spring pressure open is almost 350lbs. They're 108lbs on the seat. I've got a 0.040 thick oil shedder under the retainer. I think i'm going to ditch that to lower the pressure just a bit, and add some more breathing room. The springs are 462 lbs/in rate. So losing 0.040in is right at 20lbs of pressure. Any thoughts? |

Only that your springs are way too stiff for what you need.
I was under the imrpession that solids need more spring pressure, and you're running a pressure close to what I am with the dual spring.
My 1.6 are doing okay so far. Knock on wood.
Still wonder about a possible oiling problem. You've got polylocks right? _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

| Ya, I have polylocks. And I tried to set lash with the motor running a month ago. So much oil splashing off the rockers I had to shut her down. |

| Just noticed in the pic, that theres a polish mark mid spring. I can barely see it in my hand, but shows up well in the pic. Wonder what thats from? |

I think you're doing right in turning down the spring pressure. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

| This things always been noisey, I'm thinking that the high pressure collapses the lifters. It's quiet when cold, but once the oil is hot it chatters at various rpm. |
