Just a quick question. What is this part? It is leaking a little around the base. Could it blow the rest of the way while driving or would it be alright for a while as is. _________________ 12th Man Seahawk Fan |

Heater valve.
20.00 at NAPA.
Probably won't hurt to drive it around town, keep an eye on coolant level. but for twenty bucks and five minutes it seems a shame to even risk it. |

Get rid of it.
Just my opinion though. _________________

Ok got a new anyway. Why get rid of it? and is there an easy way to by-pass it. _________________ 12th Man Seahawk Fan |

Sure is. Cap the one lead coming from the bottom by the frame rail. Join the two other hoses together. Cap the vacuum line.
Get rid of it because it's ugly, always in the way, and always brakes. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Looks like that controls the flow of water to the heater core. Doing that won't affect heat or ac function? _________________ 12th Man Seahawk Fan |

It bypasses the heater core when the temperature selector is set to cool. I have an extra if you want to make the trip to Bremerton to get it. _________________ 92 Camaro

They started using the valves in '86. They even ditched them later on in life.
It's a nice theory, but I never noticed a difference with it on vs off.
Anything prior to '86 didn't have the valve and coolant flowed through the core all the time. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Thanks for offer Al, long way for a twenty dollar part, but the visit would be worth it I'm sure. Went ahead and got a new one for now, if it cracks next hard freeze it's gone for good
Thanks for the input crew, it is always appreciated.
