Got the IROC fired up today. Big Thumbs up

to Ian for getting me an excellent deal on a really good battery. Car runs great, changed oil and and antifreeze and greased the front end. And if you're wondering, yes, you can do a burnout with only two forward gears. Wink

Got a couple questions for those who've swapped T56's:

1) I need the three plugs for the reverse lockout, reverse lights, VSS, ect. I can get the from TPI_Parts, but they want $12 per plug plus shipping! Is this something I can pick up at Schucks or the local GM stealership, or are these really just that expensive?

2) Right now the car is parked level, and ready to jack. Is it better to swap the pedals, install the hydraulics, remove the console, cut the carpet, ect. before I jack it up and pull the 700R4? Or should I pull the 700R4 first and swap in the new trans, then mess with the other stuff?

I have a couple of the plugs sitting around here, I'll bring a couple with the xmember on fri. The VSS is the same as the coolant temp sensor and my reverse lockout was busted so I made my own connector. I'd do it in order of whatever you feel like. Laughing

Perfect. Thanks man. The plugs look like normal two-wire weatherpack connectors, but GM lists different part numbers, so I wasn't sure if it was something special or not. Shrug

BTW, that battery is working perfectly. I cranked it a few seconds to let the oil pressure build up, then fired it. No problems at all.

I fit the trans up there and marked underneath where i needed to cut. Then pulled the trans back out and cut.

I find it easier to slip in and out of the car doing the stuff for the petals with the car on the ground.

We put it up in the air for everything, but Jen did all of the interior work so far. She is small and just gets in the drivers seat backwards and slides head first under the pedals and goes to work. Tools and car parts begin flying around, and a constant barage of cursing.

On the hole I just cut it a couple nights ago. On my car I did the install tranny, mark the hole, remove tranny and cut. On hers I measured the 86 Z that I have stashed at my parents house and then measured it out on her car and cut. The factory hole is big and I cut it about an 1'' smaller so that I could adjust once the tranny is in if necesary.

Pedals are a b*&$% but totally worth it! I would not attempt to swap them any other way than upside down in the drivers seat. It's the only way to really get in there and see what you are doing.

I found it easier to yank the driver seat and put a small pad over the seat studs. Much more comfortable. It's like laying down, looking up at the stars with your girlfriend. Except better. Laughing

It does make it easier to remove it, usually I'll just recline the seat and slide it back as far as it will go and that's enough for me.

Well, I wish I would have known that the pedals I got at the junkyard were all bent to hell before I spent an afternoon pulling out the old ones, and redrilling and clearancing them. Bashy Bashy

Got the under-dash back together this morning, and dropped the column back in (what a b*tch that intermediate shaft is). Got the car jacked up, and started pulling crap off the trans.

For you swap guys, what's the best thing to do with the torque arm? Should I take it out entirely, or try and unbolt it from the tailshaft only?

Just unhook it from the tranny, it will stay up tight against the tunnel. Unless it gets in the way of cutting the hole. If your jackstands are under the axle tubes I wouldn't recommend trying to remove it from the rear end since it will want to rotate quite a ways.

Right now I have the rear jackstands under the joint where the LCA's meet the axle tube, so I'll leave it bolted in. Thanks for the info.

One quick question guys: Will the flexplate-to-crank bolts work with the LT1 flywheel, or do I need the bolts from the LT1?
