Today I decided to replace the shocks and struts on the 89. Having never done this before, I found the rears were much easier than expected and the front much more difficult, especially with jackstands and hand tools. Hardest part on the rears was finding the top mount inside the car Once I found that, the rears were very easy. The hardest part on the front was breaking the bolts loose where the struts attach to the spindle (hand tools, remember?). I think the whole job took me about 4 hours. Now that they're in, the car rides soooo much nicer, no more hitting the bump stops on speed bumps.
Here's what the old ones looked like after I removed them, notice they are 100% compressed with nothing holding them compressed.

Wow. Talk about riding on the stops.
Did you go with a stocker replacement, or did you lower it? |

Remember the post a few weeks back? These are the pieces I put on, adjusted to their stiffest setting, so far I like it that way

I've been putting off doing mine for a while now and my ride quality is harsh to say the least. Hopefully get it done soon. I've replaced the shocks and struts a few times on various 3rdgens and sometimes its easy and sometimes the upper bolt on the strut doesn't want to come off! _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

| These went on the V6 car? I have stock spec V8 KYB's on mine now and I like it. Plus I have IROC springs at approx 500lb/in in the front as well. Good job on the install! Your old ones were a little worse for wear. |

No these were on the V8 car. Was the way I bought it last August. The V6 may be due in the near future, they're about 5-6 years old now, and only stock replacement (PEP Boys). _________________ 92 Camaro

LOL! Those shocks were done ages ago. I'll bet your car feels like a new creature now. |

Yeah, I think they were original to the car. It does ride like a different car, now I'm not hitting the bump stops all the time. Next are WS6 springs and bigger sway bars and SFCs to start. _________________ 92 Camaro
