So as the Crewbies who've stopped by my shop in recent weeks are aware, the Mountain Man Z28 build has been not only pushed to the back burner, it's completely off of the stove. The car has spent the last month or so sitting out in the snow shed serving as an eyesore as well as housing first for some racoons and then later the neighbors cat.
Meanwhile my shop was full of actual important projects. Like Fords and daily drivers and whatnot. But no more! Late tonight I got a wild hare and this happened:
Running Ford tows broken down Chevy. This keeps happening.
That got it into the shop, but it was still pretty mobile and I figured soon enough I would have reason to push it back out and we would be no further along. So I decided to remedy that but good!
I got out my grinder and started cutting rusted-on stuff that looked important and soon enough I had a pimpin' lowrider:
I kept at it and sure as $*** the front wheels fell clean off!:
Well there's your problem right there:
Now it's a project car.
So that's where we sit. But at least I'm back under a Chevy again.
And now an actual question: I am hearing about these so-called "Del-A-Lum" goodies for my A-arms. What's the lowdown on them? I figure they need bushings anyway, may as well do it right. Also gonna do the ball joints while everything is apart.
I will probably just cut the front springs in anticipation of weight jacks for now, unless someone has some Eibach's they want to donate to the cause. |

The del-a-lums replace the stock bushings with a thick aluminum housing, a plastic insert that is the basis for the pivot. Then a steel inner sleeve.
I put mine in this spring and it really helps with transistions from side to side.
Make sure you install them clocked properly. I didnt and my grease fittings are almost impossible to get to |

So you really gotta do something with it now that it doesn't roll. |

The dude that pressed mine in did them a bit off as well, although I was able to replace the standard zerks with 90* fittings. Mucho easy to grease now. _________________

Duly noted, Jay. BTW, have those rails and injectors made it to Arkansas yet? I'm sure the girl gave me the slip with the tracking number, but I sure as heck can't find it.

Exactly!!
Ordered the Del-A-Lum bushings this morning.
Didn't get as much done today as I got sidetracked by a few other things, and I was distracted a bit by our American ladies giving it away this afternoon.
That said, after a little work the rear wheels also have fallen out of the car:
And some motor mounts:
Now the question of the day: I've got one of Mike's old LSD 9-bolts here waiting to go into the car. I drained the fluid and it looks good. I am wondering what fluid to run and what additives to use (or not use as the case may be). I recall talking with Mike about this at dyno, but I can't remember what he recommended. I've read many suggestions on TGO, but those guys are morons.
I also need to figure out front brakes. Thinking stock LS1 stuff maybe? Have LT1 master and Wilwood prop valve for it already. Will probably leave the stock rears alone for now. |

I just realized that the car I'm pulling the clutch/fly from has the "ls1" front brakes... |

Welp, time to start working on some electronics methinks.
Hopefully this means Project "Rusty Z" has slipped into overdrive. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

Yeah and think CHEAP. You have rear brakes worked out yet? It's got the big discs and internal drum ebrake.
Now that I have an ebrake I'm coming across a lot of these setups! |

Aaron, it showed up today. Box torn to all be hell. Rail still looks good though.
Ian, I tried finding 90deg ones. But I cant find them in the 7mm the threads are. I guess I could always drill out and tap for bigger. |

| Funny, I just found them at work (O'Reilly Auto parts). They were in a multi pack with about ten other sizes/styles. |

Was going to run the cast iron style that are on that 9-bolt, but I would defiantly consider an upgrade. |

A couple more pics from the shop:
The nine is up in this shot, but it will probably have to come back out for brakes and a bad seal on the passenger side I discovered while removing the old brakes.
Shiny!
Proper zerk alignment.
Hey Paul, remember those locking lugs? They're not so hot anymore...
The longblock is also in. Anybody want to see pics of that? |
