So ive decided to scrap my plans for m 12w3, im not happy with the look of the box and how it fits down in the well, my ultimate goal is to keep it underneath the first shelf, and since im running on a Type R 12 thats half blown (one voice coil went out) i figured i could do 2 8" W3s which only need like .3 cu ft a piece, and when i measured it i think i got like 1.5 out of that lower half, so im thinking build a single box thats .6 cu ft, build a nice fasad and amp rack for it and let it rip. My type R still hits like crazy but i know im only getting half of its potential out of it, and its wreaking havoc on my voltage at idle lol those things are so power hungry its not even funny

The idea is that 2 8's will give me 16" of cone surface which will push more air than a 12 obviously, and ive heard these things POUND, JL doesnt mess around with their subs as most of us know, they can take 250W RMS and my DBDrive amp is supposedly 600@2 ohms, however after some research and quick math on the amp its more around the 500 mark, so its perfect for these little guys.

Opinions? Ideas?

I hate to bust your bubble, but the math says that one 16" speaker yields twice the surface area of two 8" speakers. Even your 12" Type R has more surface area than two 8" speakers combined, by about 13 cubic inches. But with an enclosure built to the correct specs, any speaker can sound awesome. I'll let you have a look at mine with a single 12" sometime Wink Mine has 1.5cf of air space for the single MOJO.

pi = ~3.14
area = pi X r(squared)
8" area, pi X 16 = ~50sq inches
16" area, pi X 64 = ~200sq inches

True, but heres my other reasoning on this: type r is half toasted, and I get jl accomodations thru work so I can make a nice small box to fit in there lol and if I really wanted to have some real fun I could do 4 of the 8 ohm drivers and really go over the top lol however im just going to do 2 8's maybe share space, probly partition the enclosure and do a fasad with some plexi to show it off

And for the record I hate pi lol

Those 8" Kenwood eXcelon woofers I have in my sail panels (the ones you made the adapter for) do pretty good on only 60WRMS, though they're rated at 150WRMS. I'd like to feed them more power some day, but they're doing the job for now Wink

Cherry 3.141596????

I would never put an 8 in any of my cars. Pony up and do 10's at least. Way more efficient, better range, and nearly the same box size.

Im going for a super small box, done 10s and 12s, and im highly impressed by the 8s, the idea is to build the box 25 inches long by 7 tall, to keep it under the shelf, I can get more output from 2 8s than.what im getting now especially since my current box isnt spec'd and the type r is half toast, ive done plenty of setups with 8s that suprise the hell out of people, only way to know is to do it lol

On a side bote has anyons figured out how to stop the rear bumper from rattling? Its driving me nuts

It's your license plate rattling in the bracket. Take the plate out and Dyna-mat the side of the bracket that the plate mounts on. That should keep the plate from vibrating in the bracket.

Its not that, thats already dynamatted, when I hold the bumper the rattle goes away

When I had 4 10's my whole bumper would hop.

The rattle is probably the honey comb against the metal. You have to take the skin off and put felt in there.

And for the record, I never used dynomat. It is only for large panels that are resorting, not actually shaking. Use felt and or silicon. Especially if its two pieces rattling against each other.
