Since I need to replace my waterpump I am wanting to go to an Alumn one. I did some searching online and noticed GMPP made some. But they no longer make or have one
Anyone have experience with other brands of some? _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

Never seen a need. Used some Edelbrocks for customers that seem to be okay.
To me the extra $ isn't worth the like 5lbs weight when the car's already a pig. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Part of it is weight yes. But most of it is that anything steel thats on my car for about 2 months rust. My rotors wont even last over night without getting a spots.
Few other things.. as I'm having problems finding one.....
A stock 350 is not reverse flow correct?
Our cars use a long shaft correct?
To "underdrive" you do smaller crank, and larger accessorys? |

| Most serpentine belts spin backwards.. but are not reverse flow.. if the water pump pulley is on the smooth side of the belt it is reverse rotation. |

If you have a serp belt, the water pump spins counter clockwise, yes. Reverse rotation. Not reverse flow. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Yes, I'm serp.
So from summit it looks like here are my options
Edelbrock 8881
emp/stewart 23123
then add bolts
ARP-430-3202
then if I wanna go crazy and get new pullys
March 6371, 112, and 6312?? |

| The reason I didnt say all serp belts turn ccw is because the systems with vbelts like my 87 have a flat serpentine type belt for the alternator. However the water pump has a grooved pulley for it and turns the conventional direction. |

Single serp belts all have reverse rotation. Multiple belts have std rotation. Guess I never really consider the early serp/v-belt style "serp setup." _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

| In order to be serpentine it kinda has to loop back on itself. Those are really just multi-V belts. |

| As you both say its not "serpentine" however it is the same kind of belt, which most people call a serpentine belt. Not really sure why gm went halfass with that setup. |

| I always figured it was a way to avoid belts slipping or being thrown. Sort of like Ford running two redundant v-belts over the alt and wp on some of their engines. |

The newer alternator probably required a belt with more traction, and gm was too cheap at the time to change the rest of the system is my bet. But still.. if you have to change half the system why not just do it all right from the first eh?
Another oddball would be my 74.. it is supposed to use a standard vbelt.. with a tensioner.. on the back side.. serpentine style LOL |

The backside of a v-belt? Nice.
BMW had bolt-down v-belt tensioners, but they always went on the proper side. |

I have a no-name aluminum one I picked up a few years back, that's still sitting in a box, but I think its the standard rotation for V-belt. _________________
