|
|
So the last couple days the camaro has been choking on me whenever I got on it, its happened randomly since I moved back here, filter was replaced back in june, the entire system was redone when I bought it due to a faulty MAP and an idiot for a mechanic, new regulator, injectors, intake, pump lines flushed so it should be inn decent shape, anyway I pulled my filter to replace it and the gas came out the inlet side BLACK, I know filters catch junk out of the fuel but I don't think it should be that dirty after 9 months should it? I had the same filter for 3 years in az with no issues and I replaced it just to be safe and it didn't come out this nasty before lol
I seafoam my tank every couple months to clean everything up, so is WA gas crappy or???? I used to fill up at work @ QT, never dealt with shell or circle k/ 711/ ampm etc because I had the option of good fuel whereas now I don't...
Its still choking a little bit but nothing like before, I was on the 16 and anytime I pressed the gas in 5th it would choke on me and try dying so I had to stay in 4th >_< now its only at WOT, TPS and IAC reset was done a few weeks ago, everything is in spec
Any ideas? _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

idk what QT is but if you go to toptiergasoline.com it shows which gas is the best from what i can remember, some of the ones around here that are the best are shell chevron, 76(conoco phillips) and i dont remember the rest ampm and arco and 711 is crappy stuff _________________

I would consistently drive up to bellingham from Eugene on one tank but driving back to eugene I would have enough left over to drive to work and back. Dunno why I get better gas mileage on washington gas, just an observation. _________________ E30

I'll bet if you went back to Arizona now you'd have the same problem as you are here. The E10 gasahol that they sell cleans stuff out but good, and then rusts it out. Also gotta remember our humidity doesn't help the issue.
BTW, stick to Shell and Chevron for gas. No Safeway, Costco, Arco BS. |

76 is BP same as Arco. At least the pumps in longview say BP company on them.
Actually. .its clear as mud.. doing a search says its conoco phillips.. but says the company that owned the 76 brand was sold to chevron in 2005. The local 76 station is now a texaco. Which is also a chevron brand.. So who knows.. all I know is before the 76 turned into texaco there was a BP tag on their pumps. |

| How do you know it's not your own fuel tank? Gasoline contains alcohol now and that might corrode the metal in your tank. An LS1 4th gen tank is plastic and you can adapt it to your car fairly easily. |

| Its going to matter more the condition of the store's tanks and when the delivery happens then anything. Almost all the gas is coming out of the same tank when the truck picks it up. It's just the additive package thats different and thats added as it goes into the truck, or even by the driver afterwards. Make sure you dont get gas right after the truck dumps it in the stores tank too. That will stir up all the mud at the bottom of the tank.. and pump it directly in your car. |

Hehe... Safeway is the worst. On two separate occasions I have had two different cars start stalling out after being filled with Slaveaway gas. Both times a bottle of Iso-Heat fixed the issue. I don't know if they just cheap out on their tanks, or what, but water is definitely getting in there.
76 is garbage. Like Brandon said it's not certain who owns them either, the stations around here got shuffled as well. |

76 in Vancouver all pumps says conoco philips. I started having intermittant issues running 76 in the camaro. Stock cars didn't care.
I just bite the bullet and use Chevron. Shell if I have a freddy's discount. Chevron everything runs better on for me. I've been running the camaro on 89 octane even now with chevron and no knock! _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I know I'm going to catch crap for this, but I always go to am/pm. But I also always use premium. Cam just doesn't run the same on lower grades.
But I also use Seafoam from time to time, not only in the tank, but in the TBI and in her oil. During winter, I also use HEET or other things that help with the water in gas.
I've never had a problem with her related to gas. |

kAT, Try a full tank of low grade chevron.
See if it makes a difference.
My old 305 would get terrible milage and run like a$$ on arco. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

LOW GRADE GAS?!?
I get great mileage and have no issues, but I could check it out. Maybe the city you're in matters, too... |

My Dad used to be big on putting Arco Premium in his stuff. I told him to try Regular Shell or Chevron and he hasn't gone back. |

I actually have burned alot of arco and safeway gas. Usually buy safeway when I'm near one. Never really noticed the difference in my vehicles. Of course in longview the arco and the safeway are VERY busy stations, which I think makes a difference. The water/dirt never gets a chance to accumulate.
A fuel delivery truck driver form kelso posts on another board I go to. He's the one that said he delivers to all different stations and gets the gas from the same place. Just different additive depending on station. There was a discussion about this. 2 different drivers both said the same thing. One driver said he personally had to add the additive package to his truck after filling it with the generic fuel. The other driver said that was built into the depot. Basically you picked which additive package almost like we pick which grade.
This isnt saying that the additive package doesnt have a big effect though. |
