Can you buy just the base? cause I have the air cleaner already, and they're perty expensive. Not that I have money for either the hood or a new air cleaner, I could get a new base if i can.
Edit: Do they only come in round? I have an oval filter.. |

| You might be able to find a oval one, just search for a style you like, and find a drop base... they are a heck of a lot cheaper than a hood...and painting a hood, though. |

i've been lookin around. Went to a cobra website, those guys were sayin you couldnt do a drop base with an oval because the throttle linkage would get in the way. Some guy fabricated one, but i can't exactly fabricate.

Also, how tall of an element?
People think they need a huge thing on there. I run the 390 to six grand with a 14x2". |

I just barely cleared with a 14X3 element. I'll go to 14X2 with the new motor if clearance is an issue. _________________ 92 Camaro

| It's a 2" element. And I think its a stock replacement intake. for TBI anyway. I ended up putting my triangle of death back on. Foam is still soft so I think im good for awhile. But even that barely fits under my hood. |

you probably just need a drop base, I've got an edelbrock EPS intake, 1 inch carb spacer with a moroso drop base with a 14x3 filter, the top of the air cleaner just barely rubs the bottom of the hood. |

With an airgap, you'll need a 2" element. You'll probably have less than 1/2" clearance between the center post on the TBI unit and the ribbing inside the hood. _________________

| Another thing to take a look at is that some filter bases are more level, and some are actually pushed upwards. I can't run a drop-base on the Merc because of the mechanical throttle linkage, but a flat one works great. |
