SO ive been lookin at clutches and ive been told to go with spec but i cant find a stage one for under $450, so i was lookin around for other options like ram etc, heard zoom is a pile of crap, just lookin at my options tryin to do it budget wise, ive heard of people getting a pressure plate and using the stock replacment clutch....good? bad?

just testin the waters ive been pickin up parts every week for the swap only a few more to go, just got the entire bolt kit in a couple days ago, gettin the heads looked at tomorrow by a friend who works at west bay so its all on its way

Spec is the shiznit. Spend the coin. It's also SFI approved out of the box.

Which style trans do you have? LT1 crap or the nice LS1 style?

LT1 lol I just ordered all the odds and ends to finish the motor, once its together ill be a little happier but then I gotta drop the cash for gauges and a clutch Bashy Bashy

I have a Textralia clutch in my 2000 Z28. Don't know how much it cost. Holds 800 lb-ft torque and the pedal feels awesome. Light, short, and good predictable take up. It think they are rebuildable so the 2nd time around isn't so expensive.

Yeah I'm not gonna be pushin crazy hp tho which is why I was considering the LT4 pp and a cheap disk, atleast for the break in period, just trying to budget this thing together for now then swap parts later

Speaking of which does anyone happen to have a starter for the LT layin around? Just found out I gotta get my heads worked today

Personally I would NOT go with a spec clutch. They recently have had 5 different incidents with clutches exploding and destroying C5 and C6 corvettes. There's 4-5 different threads on LS1TECH and te corvette forums about these clutches. Spec is one of the last clutches I'd buy. I have had good luck with my monster clutch in my 4th gen and the twin disc mcleod in my Z06.

Id take vette owner experience very carefully. Do we know who installed it? Are they abusing it? Exceeding the limits? I've personally put about 25 spec clutches in cars all over 300hp and a few ten sec cars with crash boxes without any problems. And I've abused the veal outta both of mine.

Yeah the two problems with monster is 1 budget... and 2 I don't need another flywheel, I've already got an aluminum SLP, plus did they say what stage they used? Monster clearly states that stg 1 isn't reccomended for track use and if they're destroying clutches I doubt theyyre being nice

yeah I understand not listening to most vette owners, most don't work on anything other than wheels and tires at most. But on the other hand 90% of corvette owners don't do there own clutch swaps being that you have to pull the rear end, trans, torque tube, rear suspension, etc to replace the clutch. Most will take there cars to either the dealer, or rep corvette shops, not your average Billy Joe bob can tackle the clutch in a C5 or C6 corvette. and if you go ahead and do some reasearch on Spec clutches blowing up, it's not as uncommon as you'd think. I was just putting in my 2 cents seeing as if I bought a clutch that was known to explode and total cars, I'd appreciate knowing about the issue before I bought one.

Is their something different about the clutch setup in the vettes? I assume the clutch is in front of the torque-tube, I wonder if it is something specific to the vette setup.

Until this, I have heard very very few problems with Spec clutches, lots of the fast Audi guy's run spec stuff, and the AWD drag launches really abuse clutches.

Again...vetes. I appreciate your help but that's a 5 year old thread by now and the only horror story I've heard about spec, they have most likely addressed the issue by now, spec is my choice, they're affordable good clutches

i was simply offering one example of their long list of failed clutches / totaled cars they have. and no it wasnt cust corvettes they failed in. if you do some real research on them, it was in mustangs, 4th gen LS cars, GTO's and a few hondas i found. simply all i was pointing out was the failure rate of spec clutches in general. i'm not trying to bash the company, and i personally have never run one, i looked into purchasing a clutch from them for a car i have, and i personally decided to spend a little more money to buy a clutch from a manufacture who does not have a signifigant issue with clutches exploding. take what you want from the info. i was just offering what i knew.

i know, but every product has its faults, doesnt matter who makes it, i have confidence that spec has fixed their mistakes in 5 years, and if not when i blow out my clutch you can post a big fat i told you so lol

Got my first Spec clutch about..... 5 years ago. Laughing Cool Stage 3. Worked great. Broke axles, not clutches lol.

I hear what you're saying Charlie. I think John's got the same point I was trying to make.... perhaps Spec hasn't quite figured out the Vette thing. Sometimes I hate forums, because someone has a failure, a ton of other people say they did too. Could be Ram, McLeod, Zoom, Clutchmasters whatever. To each their own. Present the information and let the customer make the decision. :O)
