after installing my HSR & a 58mm TB the car wont start when set at 6 BTDC, she doesnt even want to catch
i have checked & #1 is up, dist is lined up with cyl #1
unplugged the computer timing wire
getting spark/fuel & air
im still running the stock prom currently & I know thats an issue, but i think she should still try to start
she did run when the timing was set at about 20 BTDC and fired right up before the install
any ideas whiz kids ? |

If that is the case, the only other condition needed for a running engine, is compression. My guess is, that in fact you do not have 1 of the affor mentioned 3.
I would double check everything again. |

I would bet that even though all indications show that you are on #1 TDC, you might actually be on #6 TDC (exactly 180* out) at the crank. Did you remove/replace the dizzy? _________________ Paully |

yeah ive pulled the dizzy like 3 times, but im thinking of rechecking it
air isnt to hard to get, im going to adjust the fuel regulator just in case
she isnt even trying to catch, unless i move the timing way out & then if i get it close, she will try to catch |

Maybe Brandon will chime in, but I still think that since you're running 24lb/hr injectors on the stock 305 (19lb chip) that you are just dumping fuel in there and the only way it's running is from advancing the timing alot. |

with the larger intake, the air velocity at idle will be very small also, which would further lead itself to poor fueling. |

If the timing light comes on, when it's advanced to 20, it's in phase well enough to turn and get timing set right at 6. |

Plug the timing connector back in. Did you try varying the throttle while trying to start? This would get it to start in the case of incorrect amount of air or fuel. |

Air is just as much a factor in combustion as fuel. If you can control fuel, go up or down. I had to alter my HSR startup scheme alot to get it to fire halfway decent. |

Yeah, I'd say with your HSR, your low RPM volumetric efficiency is lower and would therefore need less fuel, not more.
Also, you've installed a new TB. Being a 58mm it will deliver more air for the same throttle angle. Try playing with the adjustment screw, I expect that would be another variable.
Yes, fuel and air can cause it to just windmill. My 400 would do that before I did a chip. Had to get on the throttle a bit for it to catch. |

Actually cheesy, when I put my 58mm throttle body on, I had to max out the idle screw to get it to run the same as with the 48... I wonder if the blades screws are set up different that way? |

with your assitance we all got it figured out & shes running pretty decent now, at least at idle, no interior at the moment
need to play with the prom when the adapter shows up Monday
it was a combination of causes
1. no fuel, the gauge fuse blew & nobody noticed, so of course we didnt see she was on E, i havent driven her since last fall
2. fuel pressure was set at 30
3. timing was off a little
thanxs all for your input |
