| Does anyone here have an Android based cellular device? I just got the evo and I'm curious about the OS. Figured I should learn a thing or two about it or if anyone had some spiffy aps to get. Posting this with it actually. |

Its a pretty cool system, I've had it for like 1.5 years (different phones).
Most of the apps and games are "home made" so they are free or like $1.99-I have never bought an app but have downloaded 100's
there is an overload point for apps.. too many will make it slower then a 10 year old computer.(especially with the touch-screen)
The #1 app is Pandora(internet radio) it plays songs that you should like based on your input song/artist. _________________ -Donald

I've got an Android device. Samsung Moment.
I rooted mine and have a custom kernel/firmware installed and tweaked for better battery life, more responsive interface, wifi tethering for free, etc.
Favorite and most used apps are:
Handcent SMS - Replaces stock SMS app with more features
MomentFlash - Uses my LED flash to be a flashlight but it's only for Samsung Moment phones.
Google Navigation - I use this tons since I moved to a new town.
GPS Speedo - Check the speedo in my cars to make sure it's accurate, or see how fast I can ski.
I mostly just use mine as a phone though, after a while all the apps get kinda old, and I like a fast, clean, barebones device. I'm thinking of losing the smartphone and getting a dumbphone since I don't hardly use any other features. I will miss the wifi tethering though... _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

| Awesome. I have heard of rooting and I know a little about Linux stuff. Does that alter the functionality of it? Not sure what the process involves software wise. Seems like you'd just have to give root priveledges to the user but it seems like its harder than that. Does anyone have a good article to read? I would like to do this but also want to understand what's going on. Google search results aren't giving me the right thing. |

Gotta Droid 1 about a year ago. Dumped my BlackBerry Storm.
Best cell phone I've ever had. Came with a 16 gig chip. Loaded like 2400 songs on it with over half the chip left over.
Check out http://androidcentral.com for a lot of infomation on the system, different phones and aps.
I'm using Skype, lost.fm, Slacker, AppBrian, K9 Mail, Google Voice, Craigsnotification. _________________ "Are you guys ready? Let's roll."

ive got a gen 1 droid as well, theyre pretty sweet i got sick on the voyager from lg (kept snapping the screen off lol) and ive been happy with my droid ever since, well actually i guess they had a bad day at the plant or something because the AZ stores got a bad batch of them, id hit my camera button and the phone would auto focus in and out making the noise it was pretty irritating couldnt get a clear picture to save my life, but they sent out a new one with no problems
ive gotta say it takes falls pretty well too lol just use a screen protector _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory
