Got off work early today, picked up my sons from daycare and was cruising home peacefully in the barely noticable white cc duramax. I pulled along side a medium blue Malibue with dark tinted windows at a red light. I knew it was an undercover police cruiser, it didnt have WSP on the plate though, just the GVMT then some numbers. I pulled ahead without trepidation ( and still under the 45 MPH speed limit) and looked in the side view rear mirror thinking to my self that this was odd. Usually unmarked Malibu's are WSP. At the next light I flipped the blinky on as usual and noticed the BU cut a car off and changed lanes so he was right on my bumper. At that moment I recalled all of the bad experiences of this same manuever and knew I was going to be pulled over. I turned right, BU on the bumper, then flipped the right blinker on again and at that same moment the conspicuos reds and blues flashed. I pulled ahead to give the cop plenty of room and came to a stop. My kids immediatly questioned why I stopped, I told them that a police officer wanted to ask me a question. They were cool with it.

The Snohomish CO Sheriff asked if I knew why he stopped me. I knew I didnt do anything wrong so I said no. He said " Your registration expired in March, why dont you have current registration? " Without hesitation I told him " Becuase I'm an idoit and hadnt noticed". He asked for " the blue paperwork, should be in your glove box". I had smartass comments at the tip of my tounge but thought to my self that if I was in his position I would have said the same thing. He was cool and let me go but did make sure I knew he let me off of a 250.00+ ticket.

Anyhow, anyone else ever forget to register their vehicle and how many months / miles did you put on it before you got " legal"?

For me it was 4 months and about 8K miles.

I've never forgot the registration, for more than a couple of days, and have never been pulled over for it.

I did however, get my car impounded for forgetting to put my renewed (and still covered) insurance card in teh glove box. Reniewed on the 1st, got pulled over on the 2nd, car got inpounded for driving without valid proof of insurance.

The cop wouldn't even call my insurance to see if I was covered or not, just straight to the tow yard.

Cost me over $500 when it was said and done, for fee's and such to get my car out of hawk, and get all the paperwork needed. Luckily the judge dropped the ticket as soon as I showed in court with a letter from my insurance company stating that I was in fact covered on that day. The judge did not want to hear my remarks about the police officers behavior and the lack of willingness to even do a little checking to see if I was insured.

Ohhh, and the tow yard stole my subs, and damaged the nose of the car on their lot too, which of course I couldn't get anything for.

You got lucky! Cops usually don't give you a break if the reg is more than a week or so expired.

Yea, I was lucky. Tottaly my fault, no question about it. But... I have recieved more than my fair share of BS tickets over the last 25 years and even more legit tickets.

When I was 17 I got a ticket for 125 in a 45. I had a 1973 Camaro with a warmed over 350. The CHP didnt arrest me, but did tell me the ticket for the MPH + engaged in a speed contest was worse. Iwas stoked that he let me go with a ticket but the court appearence sucked. It was, 1400.00 plus probation. Spent more than that in lawyers to get me off.

Man this brings back memories, I once got a ticket for doing a 200 yard burnout in a 1987 Mustang GT ( it was my ex wifes asswhole brotherin laws car) and got off because the cop felt bad for me having to drive a Ford Mustang. He said he would have done the same thing, only on a more secluded road.

I could author a book on tickets. Obstructed view ( tracking down punks that egged my 73 Camaro while driving it home from a lot with a for sale sign), doing 95 MPH in a 1992 CC dually chevy towing a 32' offshore boat over the grapevine, getting arested in Kirkland for drunk driving, Banocca has large doses of alchohol in it, (dont have several shots before a breathalizer) and was left on the side of 85th after being told that my drunk wife is OK to drive my car home etc.

Being old has some advantages, #1having interesting experiences.

I've been pulled over for suspicion of DUI twice. They let me go both times! (thats what happens when you daily-drive a 3rdgen!)
