I have a 51 series accel distributor with a ruptured vacuum advance. The advance is part # g17314 and is obsolete. Does anybody have a line on a new one? I'm striking out here.

And if thats no go, I also have a mallory unilite dizzy with a bad unilite module of course.. Anybody have a module? Looks like both summit and jegs are back ordered until mid-late august.

Accel/Mr Gasket makes an adjustable universal vacuum pod. Don't recall the part number.

This things kinda weird. Sorta like ford. It has 2 plates that sandwich a tongue that sticks out of the distributor. Then 2 screws go through the whole works and the lower plate is threaded. This is what holds the pod to the dizzy. Then the arm goes through a hole in the tongue. Like I said, ford is similar except that the screws are offset, this is cut square with the screws even. Chevy and mopar use a flat plate that bolts down to the housing. I've been looking at stock units thinking accell probably didnt do their own thing, but just borrowed it from someone.. So far i've struck out.

FWIW Amazon has a Unilite module in stock. They are very proud of it however...

Ya, if I fix the unilite. Which is the last thing I really want to do.. I'd rather use the e-spark module. Its only $40. I thought about going to a standard large cap HEI but then I'd need a cap/coil adapter and either change all my wires or a new set. My wires are socket type.

Pertronix has a sweet looking billet dizzy that you can get from summit for $170... has me thinking. Roller bearing etc. Get away from all this mr gasket crap. Just dont have $170 at the moment either. Laughing

Give those guys a call. They claim they have that part #. Price kinda sucks, though.

*Edit: Baxters has a listing, but they have none in stock and claim it's been discontinued since 2006. Sad

I think i'm floggin a dead horse. For the $60 that vichubbard wants.. I may as well buy the ebay hei.. comes complete with 65k volt coil and a new set of 300+ wires.. for $80 At least with that I won't have these problems in the future. Any parts store would have the pieces. Last time I had the unilite crap out on me, it was a week and a half before anybody could get me a module. Had to drop in a point dizzy and coil so I could get the truck home. So fixing the unilites not my favorite option either.

Hmm guess I haven't seen this old Accel dizzy. Dad's got an Accel and it takes a std pod like the points one.

Ya, the newer ones take the standard gm points pod.

I originally bought this dizzy for my black stepside... so that dates it back to about 93. I've got 2 spare modules for the thing, one is a nice surface mount electronic one. It's also mag trigger so its running the msd box directly at the moment. It's always had a bit more shaft wobble then i like, a sign of accel quality, but other then that its worked very well.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I'm going to go with the HEI unit come payday. Kind of thinking that I'll run that unit standalone on the truck, and get an external coil adapter to run the jacobs coil and msd box on the red car. At least I'll try that at first to see how the truck runs with it.

Anybody have an external coil adapter for a large cap HEI? Laughing
