What you find when someone else has been "mechanicing". I've been putting a 6 cylinder from one truck into another for my mother in law. Anyway, I'd never heard it run, but my brother said it did. So I put it in there and get it fired up.. It had been sitting... awhile.. But I did get it going, on 4.. Did a compression check and cylinders 2 and 3 had no compression whatsoever. All the others were just fine. So then I back the rockers off on those 2 cylinders and apply air.. hmm it comes out the neighboring hole, but holds if I plug the neighboring hole. Head gasket! At least thats not too difficult or spendy. Got it pulled off tonight. Yup, 2" of gasket missing between those 2 cylinders. Looks to be a fresh head. Rear cylinder has had something foreign bouncing around in there previously. No sign of damage to the head, just the piston.
Now here's the kicker.. whoever changed the head.. Applied blue goo to both sides of the head gasket!!! Huge nono. Just makes the gasket slippery and slide out. They also applied enough that it had mostly closed alot of the water ports. No wonder they'd removed the thermostat. |

| I'm kinda suprised they even used the gasket instead of just straight blue goo. I'm also wondering if perhaps it was a used head gasket and the blue stuff was supposed to "rejuvenate" it. Anyway, it made it fairly easy to clean off LOL |

Hey now, sensor-safe silicone is the perfect fix for a minor gasket leak.

Yeah, but that "ghetto rigging" came from Chevy, and they called it the "LG4". |

In fact I think too much crack is probably part of the overall problem. |
