ok so recently i got about dollar bill sized dent on the roof right behind the t-tops on the edge, was told by neighbor to remove interior pieces and see if we could pop it out from there, well i got the interior pieces out but there is what i guess is called roll bar structure in the way and shouldnt be removed unless absolutely needed.

so is there any other way to get the dent out other then getting it popped out or drill holes in it? i dont have (and wont have) 500 dollars to repaire it and the car looks so bad with it and so any ideas on what to do?

im considering storing the car but how much could that run me at an decent place and where? thanks.

What caused the dent? Sometimes if the metal isn't creased and the dent isn't too bad you can pop a smallish dent out with dry ice applied to the outside.

Only other option realistically is to take the car to a PDR specialist and get it popped back out. If you don't know already, PDR means paintless dent repair, so called because a repaint is not necessary after the work is completed.

Good luck.

You could try a large suction cup, like the ones used by Glazer's. I have a 8" cup thats good for 300lb's that I used to use for setting wood doors. If it's on a the radiused portion of the roof it wont work though.

a metal portable camping oven fell down from boxed in my garage. i hope i dont have to take it anywhere, i was thinking of using the suction cup thing, might not work but for 2.99 its worth a try.

Wouldn't a body hammer on the inside of the roof skin work? I haven't seen a naked thirdgen roof interior in several years so I'm having trouble picturing the "roll bar structure" you mentioned.

t-top cars have the center brace that runs there, getting easy access to the roof skin might not be too easy.

Take it slow, don't force anything (its 20yr old ABS plastic, and it will crack or break). A little common sense an afternoon and it shouldn't be a problem.

This is a good chance to learn!

You should only have had to take off the one cross panel that goes between the headliner and the rear hatch glass. That clips into the B-panels on each side. Like four screws. Pretty simple.

Sorta like when you tried to change an alternator and came in here trying to figure out how to reinstall a neg batt cable; a part you should not have to remove to R&R an alt.

Yup yup

Confucius say: He who has disassembly ADHD will always have a large pile of parts, and a broken Audi. Razz

*Edit: @ IROC-stangs: I got nothing against helping people on here. If I recall we helped you fix your battery cable problem. My point was merely that you need to learn not to over-disassemble, and that previous experience should show you that. Wink
