|
|
Finally finished my wire tuck operation today...must say, looks significantly better without wires going over the TB/blower/valve cover! I took off all the factory loom, all the factory electrical tape and started from scratch, cutting out things like EVAP/EGR/Rear 02 Harness. I turned the injectors 180* to face inward so no injector clips show, extended the MAF/IAC/IAT/TPS for the LS1 TB (you dont see any wires from the front) Hid the MAP and the main Igntion Harness underneath the Coilpack Bracket, and tidy-ed up the rear a bit. Hit the spark plug wires with some greased lightning and steel wool, then put some tire shine on them (I know they'll get dusty over time) and they look brand new. Hit the valve covers with some brake clean, the strut towers with some too, and overall jsut cleaned up the bay a ton.
***NOTE: The PCM is sitting on top of an Icebox...I'm experimenting with one so bare with me [ ]***
Heres some pics. [ ]

Didn't leglect the back!
No sensors/plugs [&o]
Needs a bit more tucking...[:-]
Can see the MAP in this one...taken before relocated the MAP
[ ] Input is welcome! I need PRJ fuel rails to get rid of the rubber going over the blower (WBS rails stripped on me [8|])
Thanks! _________________ 1998 Grand Prix GT | 12.91 @ 103 - Sold/Retired

Dude, don't be weird.
Looks much better, although you may regret taping the harnesses vs. cleaning and/or replacing the looms. When I first did the wiring on the Monterey I got a wild hare and taped them. Then I realized I needed to reroute and change a few things, so I had to unwrap and retape. That pissed me off so bad I ditched the tape and just got some looms off of an old GM car. |

Man, looks great. I need to do that with my Megasquirt wiring on the Camaro, but I've been lazy. I'm more about how it runs than how it looks.

| It looks a lot better, next step, is to properly loom everything, instead of just electrical tape. But, the progress is good, and now you have something to aim for! |

I don't mind the electrical tape for wrap. Lots of factory installations are just tape, convoluted tubing is bright and reflects more so it's more noticable.
At work Volvo has this awesome canvas eletrical tape. Durable and really dull black so it just fades away. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Go for techflex stuff, it is bad arse. It is a little spendy, but not all that bad. |

Most factory "tape" is actually non-adhesive wire wrap. There only a little bit of stickum on the very end. If you try and replace it with standard electrical tape (especially the cheap dollar-a-roll kind), you'll end up with a goopy, tarry mess. |

I concur. It really sucks trying to undo something that has been electrical taped after even a month or two. It's gets goopy and messy. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

Thanks guys! Glad you all like it and thanks for the input. I may loom everything, but I do like the look of just electrical tape. It's hardly noticeable and loom just makes it big and bulky...and that's kind of what I was trying to get rid of.

Looks awesome! I'm real picky about wiring and I need to get on my car sometime. I hate seeing wires. Waytek Wire (internet) and Grainger (local; do you have them over there?) both have some nice wire loom stuff that expands like those chinese finger cuffs. That with some heat shrink on the ends and it'll look pro no matter where it is.
Now that I was looking for a picture of it, I see the stuff I used from Grainger is techflex. So I second Dewey's suggestion!
Funny thing about that badge, I have one on my dash that I used to replace my 80s style "Performance Suspension" badge. _________________

Another option is to buy the vinyl wire wrap. Looks like electrical tape, but no tar.
You can get it at places that sell stuff for restoring 60's Fords. Ford used it from the factory. |

Looks good man. I tried this about 15 years ago on my IROC and walked away pissed off. I also chased a possible bad connection for a couple of days. Then I remembered that when you unplug the batterey for an extended amount of time you have start the car and let it idle until it goes closed loop.
On this note, it is amazing how little wiring you see in todays engine compartments. This is the result of using multiple computers and much better emissions equipment. |

| New motors also have a lot of plastic wire covers and such. Look at an LSx when you take the coil covers and other platics off the motors. Then they aren't so good looking. |

Thanks everybody! Yes, I have been procrastinating this for quite sometime now...just recently decided to do it on a random day off of work
I can imagine it would be alot harder to do on a V8 with alot more wires everywhere. 3800's are pretty simple motors with only a few wires _________________ 1998 Grand Prix GT | 12.91 @ 103 - Sold/Retired
