|
|
So i got to put new exhaust on car...either going with hedman lts or dougs lts
dual exhaust prolly 2.5" with an x-pipe if i can manage to make it fit ive seen it done before with plenty of clearance...just trying to figure out which mufflers to get...
350
vortec heads
lunati voodoo 268 cam with matching springs
stock rebuilt qjet
edel rpm intake
compression 9.4:1
just trying to make a fun street car might take it to track once or twice a year...i dont mind car being loud its fairly loud now according to everyone else but to me its not...
before i pulled motor it had stock manifolds too with the flowmaster catback...sounded decent but flowmasters dont flow to good
but since im switching to vortecs i have to get headers...going to make a few mods to them then send them in for ceramic coating...i hate the 3 bolt flanges going to install lap joints... |

| I posted a thread a while back discussing this. IIRC most people on here liked magnaflow. |

Hehe, just wait till you've got them on a serious V8 at 2000rpm driving around town at about 1/4 throttle. You will hate those pieces of crap.
Plus the tests say they don't flow for beans. |

I love my Magnaflow. Fairly quiet but good sounding at low load and idle but if you stand on it it gets really loud and mean. Great sound too. My motor is similar to yours except for different heads and cam. We're probably around the same amount of power though.
The muffler is a dual-in dual-out with integrated x-pipe. 9" case. I hear if you go with a longer case Magnaflow they get pretty quiet, like down to stock levels.
I have shorty headers into 2.5" pipe through my muffler in the stock cat location then back to the axle and dumped with turndowns. I dislike the look of exhaust pipes at the back of the car, so I went for this but I was scared of having drone on the highway. Zero drone with my setup.

That's a nice looking setup, Gabe. Looks like pretty good ground clearance too.
Couple other things to keep in mind:
A good, well-sized crossover or Y-pipe will reduce drone a lot.
Also, I've found that good headers and downpipes seem to reduce it too. When I went from logs to LT's on the 390 the change in sound was amazing. It's actually much quieter at cruise than it was before, with no other changes to the exhaust. I noticed a smiler change on the veesix going from logs to mid-tubes. |

I really enjoy my Magnaflows. I'd love them more if my car performed as great as it sounds. (cough 305) _________________ 2010 Cobalt LT

I think that keeps the exhaust velocity and flow in the tube a lot better, I'm sure the exhaust pulses hitting the sides of the logs and the poorly designed y-pipes makes a lot of the droning noise worse.
My ground clearance is amazing. I have a good exhaust guy that I made friends with. Only negative is that he can't do mandrel-bent piping, but I think if you keep sizing appropriate that crush-bent won't sacrifice a whole lot of power on a street car. In the picture you can see the exhaust in only two places where it sticks down lower than the subframe, which you can also see in the picture. To show me how strong it is he did pullups on the pipe after I took the pictures.

Hooker aerochambers are not the ones you highlighted. Just pointing that out. _________________

| Not on the list but worth looking at are SpinTechs. If I ever have to change the exhaust on either of my IROC's again I would go with SpinTech. |
