So I put a service box on my 96 Ford and the box uses 4" round rubber mount tail lights, same as trucks. I installed a couple real nice LED lights and now when I turn the key to on two of the diodes in each light come on. This is sending enough brake light signal that the ECM is constantly locking and unlocking the torque converter. If I run a jumper wire across the left and right turn signals the 2 diodes will go off. I was towing a trailer last night that has regular lights in it and the problem was gone.

So something with the LED's is messing with the flasher unit I think, I've heard about LED's causing problems before. What can I wire into the turn signals that would act like an incadesant (sp) light. Resistor?? Rabbit ears??? The Pope's Ipod??????

Had a similar problem with the high mount brake light coming on with the tails when I had LED brake and tail lights, this blocked the current to keep the high mount light off until the brake lights came on. I'll have to check the size, but I had a diode installed just prior to the tail light (in the harness) and solved that problem. The diodes are still there, just a matter of pulling the lights off the car.

Depending on how redneck you feel that morning you can also just wire an incandescent bulb somewhere in the harness, and just tuck it some random hole.

They have resistors you can install that simulate the load of an incandescent bank for when you run LED turn signals. Something like that might help. You might be able to run a resistor in parallel with your brake lights, just a small one that will provide a current path.
