in that last one he is not super sonic, the reason you can see that cloud is explained by the Prandtl-Glauert singularity. An airplane doesn't need to be supersonic for this to happen. A similar thing happens when a plane pulls high G's, in that case the cloud forms on the upper surface of the plane. again its because during the high G turn, there is relatively low pressure on top. this vapor cloud is more pronounced, and happens at lower speeds/G loadings with the more humidity in the air. Kind of like an orange, the juicier the orange, the easier it is to squeeze juice from it.
That last one is identified as a Blue Angels F 18 filmed at fleet week in San Francisco,CA. If that is what it is, then he was most certainly not super sonic. The Blues do not break the sound barrier during their performances and certainly not in a major city. _________________ Killing mailboxes since 2009

I was just going by what it looked like, and it certainly does look like the example I linked. Thanks flea for the explanation (or reference to it). From the amount of traffic on the water in that last one, he most certainly was not supersonic, but impressive none the less. _________________ 92 Camaro

they don't do it in the states, either the Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds for many reasons, and not the least of which is the noise and all the broken windows. I was at an air show in San Diego, NAS Miramar and an F14 did a high speed flyby over the runway and blew out the windows on the control tower. That was without a sonic boom.
Congrats on going in the Air force, I was in the USAF right out of high school. Wish I stayed in, I'd be retired now and collecting couch money for the rest of my life, but I was 23 when I got out, and had all the answers
I got to do things most never will, not that it amounts to anything. I've been 'downstairs' with nuclear missiles, and have eaten my lunch sitting in the cockpit of B 52s. Those types of things don't mean anything, I'm not anymore qualified for a job than anyone else, but it was cool for a 19 year old just the same. _________________ Killing mailboxes since 2009 |

yea I've been thinking about it for a while now and right now I'm taking classes so that I can go in, because I only have my GED I have to take some classes at the college ... But I've really never liked school and I feel this is the best decision for me and my future wife and family I'll be going in as a mechanic _________________ Phil.

well the Air Force is very academic in nature but it is a good time.
Good luck to you, and remember that basic is just mind games, they try to put pressure on you to see if you will break. They try to break you initially to weed out the weakest. Your job is to not be that guy that gets washed out in the first couple weeks after that its cake. _________________ Killing mailboxes since 2009 |

I can agree on that with the overweight moocows we have walking around in tank tops. Then factor in all the drunk drivers |
