New to the PNW and not familiar with the emission requirement here. The 89 camaro my kid just bought has not had tags for 5 years. After tinkering with it for an hour or so got the check engine light to remain off. it doenst smoke, but it does smell rich. Exhaust is pretty much shot to sh*t. Will probabaly do plugs prior to testing. Any pointers or help on getting this to pass the first time. Sorry if this belongs in the Garage area, but i dont currently have a specific problem.( besides being a third gen nut)

Wiggly wiggly

Washington charges like this:

First test: $15
Second test: Free
Third and additional tests: $15

So if you're fairly confident you can just run it once as a baseline, and then do all your fixes at once and get it passed on the second free try.

What I have done in the past: Set the timing straight up. If you have a lower t-stat throw a 195 in there. Run the gas tank to near empty. Buy two bottles of Iso-Heet (the red stuff, not the regualr blue Heet). Drive it down the freeway till it's nice and warm. Dump the two bottles in the nearly empty tank in the parking lot of the place next door, then pull into the test lane.

You'll also want to make sure you have a good gascap. Nothing bites worse than failing before you even hit the rollers.

Retard the timing 4deg.

Raise idle to 900ish.

Go get 1 gallon of Race Grade Methanol.

1/4 tank of normal gas, put Methanol in.

Pass like a Geo Metro.

1. Swap LSx
2. Pass with half the limits.

Very Happy

My '89 RS V-6 passed with no emissions gear on it at all so you should have no problem. Wink

Command 0* timing and run E85. Passes with flying colors.
