I need to know if there is a preferred sealant to use with T-top seals. Is there one product that works better than others, one that I should absolutely run from? Is there any other solvent that I need for cleaning up the old stuff. Time to either register my car as a submarine, or fix the leaks.

I've heard good things about 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive. Dad has used it on all the seals for his cars and has zero complaints.

The 3M stuff works well. I have used it on T-Top seals as well as many other types of seals and in various places. Always seemed to work fine.

It's been like three years since I did mine, so bear with me. I bought some black stuff from 3M that was similar in consistency to UltraBlack RTV, but not. I also bought some yellow "gorilla snot" stuff from (I think) Permatex, but it might have been another 3M product. It was very contact cement-y

I used the yellow stuff to glue the ripped and separated seals where I wanted them, then let it dry overnight. I then used the black stuff to put a skim coat over the gaps and seams.

Doing that I had no leaks for about two years.

As for solvent, I used a rag with some brake cleaner on it (probably not the best idea, but that's what I did). Razz

Well I picked up some black permatex stuff. If that doesn't work I'll try this http://www.amazon.com/Rule-24-Marine-360-GPH-12-Volt/dp/B000O8D8QG

Go to a auto body supply shop ( Wesco) and pick up 3M products made for what your working with. If you need to fill a large hole ( 1/4" or more) use 3M strip caulk.

The 3M stuff will last as long as the weatherstripping, PermaTex wont.

Good grief someone coulda told me the bilge pump would be less of a PITA than this chore. just getting the old seals out is trying to kick my butt, Im actually bleeding. But on the bright side there is very little rust under the T top bar etc. I'm very pleased about that. Any one know of a good solvant to remove the old sealant, gas, acetone, blood got plenty of that from stabing my hand with the screwdriver/scraper, the sharp metal edges from the rails, and from the back of my head where I bashed it on the corner of the A pillar after all seals and other assorted padding was removed.

Use some gasoline.. pour it on the seat, then step back and toss a match. It will take that old weatherstripping and glue right off!!

3m makes a product to remove adhesive from cars, I use it to clean up when installing windshields, etc. I'm trying to remember what it's called, but it's in the shop 30 miles away. It might just be automotive adhesive remover. You could also use an aircraft stripper, but that will remove your paint too...

I used some MEK, forgot about that stuff, used to use it for everything when I was in the USAF. It is the all purpose chemical.

And yes, I did use gasoline first it worked ok I guess. I was thinking as I was using the gas 'what would I have done in the AF, answer; call in an air strike, mmmmm napalm gelled gasoline and fire. . . fire, yes that's it, fire will burn the stuff out then prime and repaint, repaint....that's what i did in the AF we used MEK for this type of stuff..........thats it MEK. off to the hardware store I go.

Now aren't you glad I shared my thought process you.

Well I got my new seals in, and it looks like about the only place it is leaking is where the tops meet the main seal. There is a small gap there, and I think probably the only way to fix that is to replace the seals on glass as well.

Not too much rain yet so I might be celebrating a bit early, but it looks good so far. Next is the carpet. Pass. seat gone, rear seats gone, now that center console. Looks like a PITA with the radio and all in there.

God I hope this carpet fits.
