| ok so i went to shucks and 1. they couldnt get the size of socket i need so i need to figure out what socket i deep for he lug nuts on 87 iroc rims. 2. i was talking to him about sawing off the muffler but he mentioned i would need all new piping which iv was thinking. so i just bought a bottle of pb lube crap to see if it will let me slip off the muffler like it should so far no luck but again i cant really get the jack under their and i have very very small space. but do you think this will even work or am i just wasting my time doing this? if i do end up cutting it off how much should i expect to pay for stock like replacment piping for now? thanks. |

| lugs are a 3/4 inch or a 19 mm deep well socket will work, if you neer under the rear of the vehichle from the rearend and support it with jack stands on the axle housing |

thanks i'll drop by sears when i get a chance. thanks but where is a good jacking point i tried jacking her up on the rear and pumped for a long time but it still didnt really raise the car much. |

Dude, not trying to be a dick here, but I gave you the exact size of lug socket you needed like a week ago. No need to even try and get the counter guy's brain juice going, just go grab it off the shelf.
Don't ever listen to anyone working behind a Schucks counter. I have met exactly four Schucks employees who were not complete idiots.
If you want the rear to come up level, you need to jack under the pumpkin. If you're only pulling one tire, jack under the axle tube or subframe on that side. Make sure your brake is on.
PB Blaster is the shiznit, but even it cannot work miracles. Your problem may be one of leverage, rather than rust, however. |

sorry i though i got the specs somewhere but i coudnt rememebr if it was on thirdgen.org or what. thanks though you two. so if i jack under the rear end housing it wont crush it? |

lol trust me i dont type like that when im typing something for class on the computer hell i even get 50 or so words per minute with maybe 2 or 3 errors in a 5min period of time. i know not much but better then atleast 80% of 7th and 8th graders.
i guess you havent read some of the post of ls1tech have you??? |

If you can type so well at school, then please, do it here. It makes things much easier for everyone, especially we older folks. I, for one, don't like to try to figure out where the caps and punctuation are supposed to be so I can understand what was typed. With Rodney's comment above about retaking 4th grade, he means the same thing  |

Sorry im typing on my phone eight now. Sorry also about it being hard to read I didn't know it was difficult to read but I understand. Ok about the muffler, im still trying to get the muffler off and I got a lot farther then before but it sucks with such limited space and I need a higher lift jack. |

Gonna be kinda hard to crush the housing, seeing as it holds up the entire rear of the car.
BTW, please tell me you have a real jack, and are not trying to do this with the emergency tire-change joke of a "jack". |

Im just trying to be extra careful. I'm using a i belive atleast 3-ton garage jack i cant figure out the supplied jacks worth a dam.
Also im finaly getting somewhere with getting the muffler off and i finally got the socket i need for the wheels. So if i can get the wheels torqed, top off the tires, and replace the muffler were probaly go for a drive around the neighborhood. Also are these cares loud without mufflers? |

I know this may have been asked but please tell me you also have jackstand that the car is sitting on and your not crawling around under the car with only a jack holding it up!
Seen people get pinched before and it aint cool!

Yes i have jackstands, two craftsman high lift jack stands i have them placed under the rear sway bar. Thanks for considering my saftey though  |

| The sway bar is probably not strong enough to support the weight of the car with out damage. I would defiantly put them up under the sub frame close to where the sub frame connects to the lower control arms. |

Baaad idea. Even a second is enough time to drop the car on yourself.
I had a sketchy jack once and used it to go under my Camaro with no jackstands when I was young and dumb. I figured the same you did, everything would be OK, I'm only under there for a second. Next thing I know, the jack was leaking pressure and gently set the car on my chest. Luckily in my case, the jack had enough pressure to just squeeze me and not collapse on my chest. After about 15 minutes my dad happened to come out to the garage and freed me from under the car. That was a lesson I will not soon forget.
Every time you go under a car without securely placed jackstands you are flirting with death. We're not just giving you a hard time about it for fun, we're potentially saving your life. This is a big deal. Please work on your car safely. Having "crap cluttered around" is absolutely no excuse for unsafe practices.
