so some of you probably remember me talkin about the two 85 Z28 parts cars that my neighbor has, well i think i gonna buy them and put the 305 into my car, cause it has way less miles than my current v6 and i can get it cheap and my car has problems right now. so very soon i might have two parts cars and a v8 in my car and you guys get first dibs on the parts (after i take what i want ) so yeah, ill let ya guys know once i talk to my neighbor
305 is from a 85 so its carbed then right? what do i have to do to convert? is it pretty easy? _________________

Are you going to convert your FI chassis to carb, or are you going to convert your carb engine to run FI?
I would personally choose the latter. :two cents:
*Edit: Are you sure it's a quadra motor? TPI was an option in '85. |

my car is fuel injected right now and im pretty sure the 305 is not tpi, would it be hard to convert to tpi? wouldnt i just need harness, computer and TPI heads and intake or just the intake? cause if thats all i would need i think that would be cool to have it tpi _________________

If you are going the LB9 route (305 TPI) let me know. I will have the entire harness, ECM etc.
High mileage engine but runs strong. Had the chevy salute like most of these engines but that is a simple set of valve seals.
I need to get this stuff pulled out of the car and posted in the for sale lol.

That '85 could have TPI as it was an option on the Z28. You won't need TPI specific heads to convert an LG4 or L69 to TPI. I have the lower intake, runners, and plennum (no throttle body) from an '86 that I am willing to sell. You may need a new fuel pump as well. I don't think the V6 unit is gonna supply enough fuel. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

| RPO codes are your friend. Namely the ones starting with 'G'. |

If the original owner didn't pony up the cash for the TPI option, I doubt he sprang for the posi rear. Maybe if its an L69...? I had an '84 Z28 which had every performance option available that year except for posi. Go figure... |

On the flip side, that F-150 I bought last winter has no options except for posi rear, AC, and the 302. Everything else is totally base.
Just goes to show you gotta check, cause people buying new cars are stupid. |

isnt the posi code like G80 or something?
cant you also check by lifting the rear end and spinning one tire, if they both go foreward its posi and if the other goes backwards its not _________________

| Zexel torsens you cant check that way. They act like an open diff when lifted in the air. Also gov lock posi's will act open.. lots of exceptions to the rule. |

Do you have one of these in your car? It's all the RPO codes for the car. This one is in the center console of my 89, there is one just like on the inside cover of the rear storage compartment of my 92.

| Oh, yes, I have that in the center console as well. Don't know where it is in the Firebird, though. I will have to go look later. |

Zexels came in 4th gens, gov locks are in almost all gm trucks. They're a centrifigally operated posi... a very bad idea. If you cruise ebay looking for a posi you'll find lots of them for sale cheap. Basically you get the tires spinning, a weight flies out activating the posi clutches, which lock, and you break your rear end! LOL
Anyway, my point was you can't tell a posi for sure by spinning the wheels. Now if they do turn the same direction(with tranny in neutral) then it probably is an auburn or eaton posi. But i've even had tight open differentials act like that.. my 2nd gen just the other day did. Had me all excited until I took the cover off. |
