Put in an order for headers for the Monterey today. Offhand I asked the owner what gaskets he recommended:

Hi Aaron,
...
as for gaskets you will not need any, just use a small amount of hi-temp silicone.

Now bear in mind that I am having to run RemFlex gaskets on stock log manifolds due to a fantastic amount of exhaust leaks (typical Ford Razz). The cheapos were blowing out on me because of lousy surfaces between the heads and manifolds.

I'm fairly certain that headers on this motor will leak gasketless, but he seems pretty sure of himself.

Any thoughts?

Weld the headers to the heads! Thumbs up

I would run some gaskets either way. I went overkill 5 or 6 years ago with dead soft aluminum gaskets and locking bolts, never had to touch them again till I pulled the heads a couple years ago. Then I was able to reuse the gaskets.

I'd run gaskets, but this isnt the first time i've heard someone say they've had good luck with just using high temp RTV.

For whatever its worth, every 260/289 I dealt with had gaskets, with factory manifolds. No idea if this was Ford's idea from the factory, as when I owned them they were 40ish years old and definitely did not have stock exhaust.

That being said, err on the side of caution and go with the gaskets.

Guess you should've gotten those Remflex gaskets earlier, huh? Laughing
