Both my brake lights are out. What is the fuse that provides power labeled?
I thought it would be either the ones labeled "stop" or "tail" but they have power to each side of the fuse.
oddly the crk and "inst lps" fuse doesn't have power to either side... |

Stop Light Switch; Hazard Flasher
Should be the one by itself in the corner below the 2 silver circuit breakers, a yellow 20 amp.
Maybe check the switch at the top of the brake pedal. _________________ 92 Camaro

| I should mention that my trunk latch wasn't closed all of the way recently and I came out to find 1/2 an inch of water in my tire well. possibly related? |

Do your turn signals work? I know you said your hazards do. The brake lights run through the turn signal switch. If your turn signals work then your probably not getting power to the turn signal switch. _________________ Member of the "Elite T56 Club" , big brake club, and "burgundy" (not red or maroon) car owner.

*&^%....... I knew that was inportant. I broke it when I was doing the ignition switch. t snapped in the middle, with the connections on one side, and i'm guessing its some sort of actuator on the other...
Ive gotten the connections off and removed the switch itself, but it's dark and I can barely see...How do I remove the narrow ribbed piece? and how is it mounted?
I love pictures... |

The narrow section goes through a clip on the pedal bracket. It's a two-way adjuster thing that allows you to push it up to the pedal stop, and then lets the stop push the switch back. Just pull it straight out.
New one at Naper or the JY for a couple bucks.
Make sure you get the one with two plugs if you have cruise control and want to retain it. |

| There's nothing but a tiny metal clip holding the plastic into the larger metal plate on the pedal bracket. No beating required, just push it out with your finger or a flathead driver. |

we can call the beating a "metaphor" I see what you mean though. I was able to get it loosened but not free. they are very tiny as you said. I
might be done for the night unless I get another idea about it. it's to windy. Mother nature is trying to slam the door shut on my head for driving a V8. |

Does anyone have a picture of how the switch is connected to the brake pedal itself?
I've bent the medal tabs up but it won't come loose I don't understand why it won't pull out
The chilton book says
1 "disconnect the wiring harness from the brake light switch"
2 "remove the switch" |

The metal clip stays in the pedal bracket.
The part that Al pictured is the only thing that you need to remove. It has ribs that lock into the clip. Just slide it right out. Might need a little persuasion, but that's it. |

And the winner is Ian, they were threaded. it came out by hand after some penetrating oil. The tabs I was supposed to bend back broke, and the ring it screws into won't stay. And of course they didn't give me a new one when I ordered the part.
Superglue is a bad idea right... (the ring to the bracket, not the threads to the ring) |

| I'd use some kind of epoxy, or JB Weld for a more permanent fix. |

I would be willing to bet that someone in this group has experiance with JB welding their fingers together.
I however, have not done this, so I am of no help other than to point and laugh because it sounds like something I would have done myself. |
