Driver side is done. I decided to have it done since I ran out of time this summer. I provided all the necessary parts, but the passenger side pin won't separate so I can have the new roller and pin installed (too much rust ). GM wants almost $200 for the whole assembly with the detent spring (lever??), pin, and roller, but all I need is the lower portion of the pin to go with the upper half I already have. Anyone have a parts car that has one??? It's for the purple one... _________________ 92 Camaro

Those pins are a real pain. I just did one on Daisey, got a nice little system worked out to do it Wish I'd read your post earlier so I could have been of some help to you.
When I press the new pin in, I used a thin flat washer under the roller it so it would have a nice surface to ride on. Did that on my car years ago and it still looks/works like new with the larger surface to ride against. _________________ Member of the "Elite T56 Club" , big brake club, and "burgundy" (not red or maroon) car owner.

I really need to redo the pins on mine too. Theres a surprise my 18 year old pins are getting tired of holding up those 6,000 pound doors.
I really have way too much stuff that I "need" to do.
Wind shield wipers (rain X is cool but. . .)
Rear end
Speedo
Cruise control probably related to the speedo though.
Front end is making weird popping noises when I turn full lock, and I swear I feel the right steer tire drag when backing up while turned full lock
new carpet and headliner
I had a dream about http://www.mylittlesalesman.com/frontend/content/listingdetail.aspx?pos=1&adv=9aa32f2c-5021-4a55-a640-667027deee4d&item=491618&ind=4&status=all yea yea I know but can anyone tell me its been done before.
and paint.
At 15.00 per hour I guess I'll be working a long time to pay for it all. _________________ Killing mailboxes since 2009 |

Thanks Dan, maybe when I get to the red one. I farmed out the purple one because the driver door was in such bad shape (bushing kept coming out on lower pin ) and I ran out of time last summer to fix it. Took the tech at the shop all day to do them today. _________________ 92 Camaro

When you replace the lower pins get the one from TDS. The ones from parts store don't fit. The bushings are smaller than the holes.
And...........the parts store all list an upper pin which is really the lower. You can get the uppers from TDS or off ebay. The ones off ebay are much cheaper, but that are just that. Cheaper. I tried the ebay ones this last time and spent hours making them work. Not worth it.
If your going to do one pin, do the whole thing, upper. lower, and the detent roller. Might as well have all your fun in one day so to speak _________________ Member of the "Elite T56 Club" , big brake club, and "burgundy" (not red or maroon) car owner.

I've had the experience of returning the lower pins from the parts store The TDS parts are what I have, but I settled for the non-greasable ones, and I am doing the upper, lower and detent roller. |

Product of the steering geometry. At full lock the tires don't point the same direction and one drags a bit. If you turn full lock and get out to look, you can see what I'm talking about. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

yup, caused by the piss poor ackerman curve that our cars have, Dewey can elaborate more if you want to technical details. Unfortunately it's completely normal. _________________ Richmond 3.73 posi| 36/24 sway bars | SLP LM2 | Koni's | Ground Control 800/200 | Y2K wheels | Dyno Don headers & Y-pipe | airfoil | BBK underdrive pulleys | Raised strut mounts | Extended ball joints | LCARB'S

One of the lower pin holes on Daisy was oversized from wear even with the proper kit from TDS. I used JB weld to set the pin in with. You would be amazed just how strong that stuff is applied properly and allowed to dry completely. I use it on my T56 mods and haven't had one leak, one fJailure, nothing with it. It used Devcon for the first few T56's I did, but the JB weld is just as strong and much cheaper.
One tip with JB weld, the quick drying formula is only 1/2 as strong as the regular formula. So wait overnight and have twice the stregth and holding power. _________________ Member of the "Elite T56 Club" , big brake club, and "burgundy" (not red or maroon) car owner.

I used it quite a few years ago to repair a belt buckle, I rebuilt the one of the holes the steel loop that holds the belt slips into. I still wear that buckle every day |

Thanks, I may take you up on that when the weather gets nicer and we both have time It's not just the doors, the windows have to be adjusted accordingly because the doors will hang different. I had to do a little adjusting on my tops last night so the window slid under the drip guard, I might still have some window adjustments though |
