I just adjusted the governor from 4500 to about 6200 rpm. I must say the car is a different animal. Can't believe I waited this long to do this. The car is much faster, even allowing it to brake the tires loose on the shifts now. Kinda curious though if the cam's operating range is up to 5800rpm. Does this mean that max power most likely occurs at/near 5800 rpm and you can rev past this? The engine seems to run great through the shifts/ up through the rpm range (6200rpm). However I don't want to cause damage for a few extra rpms. Should I just try an another adjustment on the governor?

What valvetrain? Redline and cam peak are two very different things.

What engine did you adjust this on? Big jump from 4500 to 6200.

I used the valve train that came with the dart 200 platinum's

I used this cam

http://www.jegs.com/i/Lunati/638/60102LK/10002/-1

The rocker arms are comp cams pro mag's

I have never adjusted the governor before, this process seems to be trial and error. This was the first trial and 4500 rpm was the original shift point from when I bought the car.

I forgot to mention that I was mainly worried about the bottom end. The pistons, rods and crank are cast. Would it be benificial to upgrade to arp bolts for the rods and main caps?

Well I adjusted the shift points down to 5800 from 6200. I'm just gonna leave it there, thought I would give an update.

Rod bolts tend to be the SBC stock rod weekness. The rods are forged. :O) Just not a quality aftermarket forging or H beam.

ARP bolts are the best. To install the bolts you'll have to have the rods out of the engine, and have the caps resized with the new bolts. If you just shoved them in, the caps will never align properly and cause pre-mature engine failure.

Same goes for the main bolts. Putting ARP studs in requires a line bore.

I've got stock rods/crank myself in a 2 bolt block and beat on it pretty good.
