Last month, I received notice that the 85 needed emissions testing and with only a couple of months from it turning 25, i figured what's the point, especially, since it will fail anyways. So, i called up the Dept. of Ecology and asked them if they could waive my car and let me get tabs now instead of letting the car sit untabbed. The guy took my VIN and a few minutes later called back and gave me the go ahead. I thought that was pretty cool. Now it's time to remove the cat and be completely emissions free.

I just took the emissions test on my '87 on Saturday, and it passed.

I now plan to take the cat out! I thought I would have to put it back on one more time, but maybe I can do this too!! Very Happy

I have no cat, air pump belt is off, car is chipped with 237K on it and it still passes Very Happy

Chip can help a lot of stuff get past. Had nothing but trouble running stock or near-stock chips and passing emissions. As soon as I messed with timing tables it passed like a champ.

The trick for that particular engine (which had obviously not been reading any books Razz

) seemed to be advancing idle timing, while retarding cruise timing, that gave the best idle and roller emissions numbers.

Of course as soon as I passed, that chip came straight back out. Laughing

I have no emissions gear on the Camaro and a hollow cat and it passed last time just barely. Wonder what it will do this year. Confused

if you let the car sit without tabs for one year, go in a couple of days later and buy the tabs...they only inspect cars during their required years.

didn't phase me in the least...i still drove mine around town and even to a car show where the cops were swarming that day...OK, i was a little nervous with all the cops...LOL!
