and im not excited about putting it in alone, especially after not finding a single piece of positive help on TGO (no surprise there), any advice guys?

if i was closer id give you a hand...yeah tgo is pretty worthless anymore...all ppl do is argue on there...or never answer...and if they do its....do a search...thats why i rarly post over there anymore...now i post on here cuz the CASCADE CREW is AWESOME

Been awhile since I've done one on a third-gen.

You'll need to remove the door panel first. Get a T15 and take off the window and door lock switches. The arm rest takes (I believe) a T-30, and two large phillips screws.

Use a large flatblade and slide it along the bottom of the panel, when you find a pin, just pry it out carefully. You will probably break a few, so don't worry too much, they're a pocket item at the JY.

Once all the pins are off, (there will be some on the sides too) lift the panel up to unhook the clips on the top.

If you have manual windows, you will need a crank handle tool. Should be less than ten bucks at the local Schmucks or Blattozone.

Roll the window down and find the two clips holding it to the frame. Should be two 10mm IIRC. Pull the old one out, and toss it in a big garbage bag.

Drop the new on into the slot, and align the clips. Helps to have someone to hold it while you tighten the clips up. Make sure it's aligned properly and comes up against the T-top correctly, then put the panel back on.

Throw the garbage bag-wrapped window in a trash can, and throw a big rock in after it. That will take care of the window for you, without having to find a big dumpster. Razz

wow, thanks aaron, that was EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED, i searched for like 2 hours on tgo, i havent posted there in for ever, you guys are usually a lot more help. lol. now im ready to tackle that project tomorrow. thanks guys.

A couple of other random thoughts:

Unlike many Chebbies (S-10s for instance Razz

) third-gens have cardboard door panels. You may find that a lot of the plastic pins do not break, but instead pull out of the cardboard. If that happens, get a set of dikes, and slide the jaws around the base of the pin. Without closing the dikes, rock them against the door and the pin should pull right out. You can then twist it back into it's slot on the cardboard.

Also, if your window was purchased OEM, and not at the JY, lay the old window in the grass (or on some cardboard, never on concrete) and lay the new one on top of it. Then transfer marks so you can match the position of the window clamps in the slots. It should be pretty obvious where the old fasteners went.

so things didnt go so well, i couldnt get the new window in (i tried for like 3 hours) i couldnt get around the window roller thingy. lol. so im just going to have a body shop do it. its just easier then trying to put that window in at my apartment complex parking lot. LOL

I have done this a couple of times, but it's been awhile. You will have to drill out some rivets, and if my memory is correct, the grommets on the door skin side are a PITA to get started. The window along with the slider will fall into place but you have to move the door mounted sliders back and fourth after loosining the glass guides at the top of the door. IIRC, the door mirror has to be removed also?

One thing you want to check while you have the door panel off is the rubber bump stop at the bottom of the window. They fall off and allow the window to go down too far and lets the window get under the window felt strip and the window catches under the strip and screws the felt strip up when the window rises.

It's an easy fix, I drilled a small hole in the bump stop bracket and put a little rubber bump stop in there held with a small machine screw with a nylock nut. I think I have pics somewhere I think if you need it to understand what I'm talking about. Cost was about $3 to fix both sides.

Here is a pick of the rubber bump stops I used. Got them at Ace hardware.
