So my wheel fell off while I was driving down the highway today. Actually it was my adapter, my right front wheel just went with it. I was on Hwy 26 heading Westbound just before exit 71A. I managed to safely guide my car to the shoulder and come to a stop without causing an accident or hitting anything. My first emotion was not fear or an adrenaline rush, it was anger. I was pissed that another thing went wrong with my car. I got out of my car after a minute or so and went to try and find my wheel. Didn't happen. I walked up a down the highway, even had my dad pick me up and drive a mile or two. Never found it. Someone had to have picked it up. That's actually what I'm most mad about. If I had found the wheel I could at least put it back on my car. Now I have a car with three wheels that's undrivable. After getting towed home I assessed the damage. The only apparent damage was done to the brake rotor. It got ground down pretty good. The exhaust only got a couple of scrapes but it's still round. My engine cross member got pretty scraped up too. The right front fender is just a little messed up. there is now a large enough gap between the door and the fender that you can stick your finger through it, it got pushed up vertically about a half inch and the fender lip got slightly bent inwards. Tomorrow I'm going to drive up and down the highway even further and look over the barrier walls the entire way. The wheel has to be somewhere. I have the worst luck my car. I finally got my car how I liked it, and this crap happens. What really surprises me is how fast the nuts to the adapter backed out. Not even one day of driving. I even planned on re torquing all the adapters when I got home.

keep looking for that wheel, they will go a long ways. look far off the road too, if they hit a bump they will bounce pretty high. look about twenty yards off the pavement both sides of the road its unlikely that someone took it with you sitting there missing a wheel. just keep looking someone will find it one of these days and you're the only one that wants it.

Your adapters should have come with instructions. You have to retorque the adapters after only a few miles and should do it again a few miles after that!

Did the studs break or did they back off?

Any car that gets modded has problems man. Glad you're safe and that no one got hurt!

Holy shat dude. That sucks. Mad That wheels has got to be around there somewhere.

Oddly enough, I had the exact same thing happen to me back in high school. I was going down the hill right in front of my HS and went to turn onto the cross street that had the parking lot entrance. Bang! Clunk! and the right front just drops and I see my wheel speeding away from me. Luckily I was already turning and mine did the same thing as yours and just rode on the rotor until I got it pulled over. I was about halfway through the turn when it happened and the wheel went straight for a curb, rolled up the curb and bounced off the guardrail, caught about 15-20ft of air, arced over the fence and onto the baseball field... Laughing

I am with Flea those wheels can roll a heck of a distance, hit bumps and
just go off in a different direction, I bet it's still there tucked away!
Hang in there man!

IDK, I've spent hours looking on two separate occasions. I'll keep looking but I honestly don't think it's there. I'm going to call the ODOT maintenance yard to see if it was picked up. I'll also ask if they can review their traffic cams as there is a camera that is almost directly above the incident site. I'm watching eBay and Craigslist like a hawk and I ask that if anybody notices one 17x9 SS wheel, one 2" spacer or one brand new Nitto NT555 285/40/17 tire anywhere for sale to please let me know.

That sucks man. I had a left rear wheel come off from a Cutlass I was driving. I think someone loosened my lug nuts. Fortunately, I had a trailer hitch that went across the width of the car and bolted to the chassis, and that kept the quarter panel from getting damaged. I was on PCH going across the San Gabriel River in Long Beach, the wheel ended up in the water on the other side of the road.
