Coolant sensor, o2 sensor, clogged cat... it could be several things, you need to check stuff out.

You definitely wanna get that MAF back in there.

Pops up front are from too advanced timing or lean conditions.

Pops out the back are from too retarded timing or rich conditions.

That doesn't make any sense?

Maybe if the pump is bad as you suspect, the readings from the MAF make the mixture too lean because the computer runs based on full pressures. Running in limp home mode like this is a bad idea.

You could be running so lean you melt some pistons.

well i dont hav any engine lights on and the poping sound is coming for the front so now im thinking its the coolant sensor cause wouldnt that cause it to run lean? plus my car seams to have cooling system problems almost all the repairs that this car has had i the past few years have been coolant related first the radiator then the heater core then the coolant temp sensor and the water pump has been making noises since iv owned the car so y wouldnt it be time for this sensor to go

The coolant temp sensors I've seen fail have failed max cold, and cause the engine to run rich. Yours sounds like a lean condition.

Are you overheating? Overheated engine will ping and have no power.

Lean condition causes the engine to run hotter. Check fuel pressure, and timing.

Saber: I'd verify their readings. What shop did you take it to? You're local so I'll now most shops.

Cameron:

Spend the $7 and get a 180ºF Thermostat. Standard V8 Small Block Chevy w/ gasket.

Run something like chevron or shell vas.... 92 octane..... NOT arco, 7-11,etc... and get back to us... Twisted Evil

ok tomarrow ill pick up the 180 thermostate and just for the hell of it ill grab a coolant sensor (if there open on labor day that is). and i normaly run 89 octane but ill do 92 now and i try to stay away from 7-11 and arco and places like that but there is safeway gas that i have been running in it cause with discounts i could get it for like 2.50 a gal but i thought it would bit me in the ass. but i stoped runing that when this problem started but right now i got a full tank of 89 octane from 76(im not sure good 76 gas is) with fuel system cleaner but ill see about addin some better gas soon

Safeway gas sucks. Same with Costco and Fred Meyer. Try Shell or Chevron premium. I do run Arco 87 in the truck, but I have to detune a bit for it.
