How to destroy and engine as specified by the government.

Looks like a pretty good car to have that done to it. Poor people still driving late 80's cars arent going to have anything to step up to if this continues.
Here's a real nice jeep. Sucker took forever to seize too.

Everything pretty much turns to scrap...how lame.
It better not become a law where we HAVE to do that if we have a car that qualifies...they should pay us to make some of those cars more fuel efficient. Forced induction anyone? |

at the you tube comments! "YOU ARE SICK BASTARDS, KILLING A POOR INNOCENT CAR LIKE THAT!"
HAAHHA its just a car, not a living thing. Its sad they are destroying perfectly good cars. shoot, there are so many worse cars on the road then the ones they are killing. If they truly cared about the environment, they would kill old crap heaps from the 70's & 80's and donate these to replace them. i'm certain my dad's old 1984 ford is WAY worse than both those combined!

Guy my mom work with traded in a 98 tahoe with 68k on the motor.
I was like that motor has TONS more life in it, and they gotta scrap it. They keep this up and there wont be any good motors left. _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

I was under the impression that the car had to be "running" in order to qualify for the incentive.
Is that not the case? _________________

| These people are retarded! They want another loan? They want more payments, just to get $4500? And there's no guarantee they will get that much, the new vehicle has to have at least 10 mpg more than the original along with other requirements just to get the full amount. What the hell was Obama thinking? This plan only adds more problems. |

QT, The car is running when traded in. Then the stealship is required to "fubar" the motor so that your government "knows" it cant be used anymore. Anything else is up for parts.
d0012, The man is thinking better mpg to "lessen our dependency" on oil. Hes also thinking to raise auto sales to help USA auto mfgs. But the problem with that is them mfgs really arnt producing alot of cars that meet the qualifications. IMO, hes not helping as much as he thinks he is. _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

I heard that it has to be licensed and insured for at least a year to qualify.
I think it is great, if I still had Jenn's Firebird I may have tried to use this on a newer diesel pickup. Or does it only work for new cars? |

| Only works with new cars, and you only get the full 4500 if you get 10mpg better than your original clunker |

| I'll keep my clunker. I have no interest to spend $25K+ to save some fuel. Besides, somebody could use an affordable car. |

| I saw a car take off today, no muffler, smoke blowing out in a big cloud. I know the woman works at the grocery store and has no money for something better. Somehow it just doesnt seem right that we destroy a vehicle like that jeep on purpose, when this person is working and has a car that barely gets her anywhere. |

| At the end of the day this probably won't result in much. Most people with clunkers don't have enough money to get a new car anyway. The few that get turned in are probably pretty used up. |

| News is they allready have had to stop the program. They think they've allready gotten all 250k cars they had money for. People are going back to congress to ask for more funding. |

100% agree with this part. Like Mad said, the cars we need to get off the road are owned by people who cant afford to repair it, let alone make payments on a new one. |

My brother-in-law is going to be disappointed. He was going to trade in a Subaru Legacy with 230K miles. The thing is going to be off the road one way or the other! |

The program lasted less than a week before they ran out of money. Crazy since they thought it was going to last through November. _________________
