Well I almost had catastrophic failure without even firing.
So a little background.... Car is on the jack stand and I fired it 3-4 days ago and warm it up checked shifting with the new trans and everything.
Today I drop it on the ground and fill tires up, torque everything and get ready to pull it out of the garage to clean up. Car turns about half a revolution and kicks back with a nasty cough which in turn ruins the brand new gear reduction starter I just installed. Motor is froze oh crap! Pull all plugs out and fluid rushes out of number 8 and 5 holes...... other plugs are wet looking....... hmmmmm smells like...... GAS ah jeesh. Not sure what happened but I can only figure a float got stuck or something. I clean the plugs and dry out the cylinders. Fire the engine up and it appear to be ok. Run good no knocks or rattles so knock on wood but im hoping I saved it without doing damage. I ripped the carb off. Guess I will rebuild and see what was going on in there.
Funny how whenever this thing gets close to be called upon for duty all sorts of things crop up. _________________

Well I performed the compression test and it was within 10 pounds of the other cylinders.190-200 should be just fine. I did however pull the carb apart and found a bit of crud in the bowls so im thinking that something got lodged in one of the needle and seats or something and held it open and leaked everything in. That about the only thing I can think of that would do that. _________________

| That is so weird cause I never heard of that happening before. Now look I have to take the carb apart today to clean it out cause one of my cylinders was full of gas too. Hopefully it is as easy as yours to fix. BTW good luck with pinks. |

Well found the problem tonight! Good thing I removed the carb and pulled it apart because the primary float has gotten a pinhole somewhere and was fuel logged, which in turn held the needle open. Hopefully these problems will stop and it will be smooth sailing.
Should be right around 11.1 compression blue89.... Gear reduction starters dont like engines that roll back against them. I would rather have the starter go out then bend a rod at this point in the game! _________________

You could have fixed the problem by just adding more air.
Good you found it! Did you have the nytrile float or was it a brass one? |

It was brass. I just put another brass one in since the last one lasted over 8 years lol _________________

This has been part of the preparation...... I got a message from a reporter for the Seattle Times and he set up a time a couple of days ago for an interview which happened today. Hopefully it went well! He came and took alot of pics and asked a ton of questions.... Hopefully I dont sound like one of those guys in the articles that sound like an ass lol.. _________________
