|
|
It seems that all of us at work are getting a week off in July without pay. Sign of future times? I think so. Won't be surprised if more of this happens in the next year.
Fortunately, the rolling layoff is scheduled during a time when I was planning vacation anyway. And since I can't use vacation time during that week it means I keep if for later. So I'm going to get 5 weeks off before the end of the year. |

The production part of my company has reduced to half schedules for 5 weeks, so kinda feeling the times myself. Economy is definately looking good! Just time to do work around the old house I suppose. _________________ 1991 Camaro RS - 454 BBC |

Hopefully that week off will save enough money, they won't need to do rounds of real lay offs.
My company just let 15 people go 2 weeks ago, that is from a building of about 300. |

The economy sucks and it is finally starting to hit home here in the PNW. I hope all of the money handed over to the people that helped cause this mess turns this around in a couple of years.
I cant see the economy being full tilt like it has been for the last 15 yeras for another 15 years. i was looking hard for a job the last time it happened, still rember the feeling, sucked ass. I have been employed with the same company since 1994, but have seen the evidence of this economy. |

I'm hoping it doesn't come down to that for us. Where I work, we're almost totally dependent on the airline business and what they want in their entertainment systems. Some of airlines request such and such mod to their systems and yank the boxes wholesale and send them to us for those mods - as well as any repairs needed. Most of our techs replace the circuit boards in the boxes so they can perform a quick repair, I'm kind of fortunate that I am one of the few who repair the boards that are pulled out by said techs - have to keep the inventory so repairs can be made
Just yesterday, my supervisor informed me of overtime availability (strictly voluntary) on Saturdays starting 30 May for board repair. I'll have to start on the following Saturday due to prior plans _________________ 92 Camaro

So is a week off without pay good or bad for you?
Let's just say next year some time, I won't be the crewbie GM parts guy. _________________

| That sucks man. I wish the people that are staunch GM haters realize what would happen if GM folded. I am assuming the dealer you work for has been givin the "notice? |

Is Bruce Titus getting killed by GM, or are they just downsizing parts? |

I, along with almost every dealer in the area, has had our GM license denied renewal next year. Bruce Titus will still be around, we just won't be able to sell new Chevy cars and GM parts. There's talk of just turning it into a used car lot and general auto shop but who knows. But, by that time I should have switch back over to taking day classes and I won't care. |

We're letting go 20,000 people this year.

I'd rather make money but I can enjoy some time off too. I'm more concerned about long term prospects then the immediate rolling layoff. |

Well, I had my week off without pay. IT WAS AWESOME!!!!! I needed a break.
Other good news is that I will not have any more temporary layoffs this year. Other people in the company will, but not me. |

Congrats man. With all of the money dumped into the banks and " shovel ready projects" heavy manufacturing ( whats left of it in the US) should stabalize soon.
The construction comapany I work for has cut it's salaried personel in half and is starting to go after public works projects. This is the first time they have gone after this work since they began, over 40 years ago. |
