I would like to purchase one for my 1990 Vert and there are several for sale on TGO. Does anyone have experience with these things and what would you pay for one that hasnt been installed on an engine yet? Two that I have asked questions about are bare manifolds, no fuel rails etc. One is complete except for injectors, he wants 925.00. That one has rails, all sensors, 58mm TB, fuel lines, CAI, rail mounted FPG, adjustable FPR, fuel pump and some other stuff I dont need. The periphial hardware may not work on the vert becuase the set up is in a 1990 truck.

Thunder Racing sells the bar intake for 360.00 plus shipping, rails and adjustable FPR 220.00.

What else am I missing? Any input will be appreciated.

$925 is a good price if you need the stuff. Otherwise you're best to get the intake/plenum and fuel rail from Thunderracing just as I did. Get the adjustable fuel pressure regulator. It'll be worth it.

Stock fuel pump will be good for a stock type motor. Expect more chip tuning. Mine would barely get out of the driveway it was so lean on tip in. Other seem to get by without much tuning at all.

Basically to make it fit on a Maro, you need to plumb the fuel rails to the fuel lines. I used AN fittings/AN stainless line/AN ADAPTERS to the stock fuel lines of the TPI.

You can reuse all your sensors. You need to get a different water neck, odds and ends like barb fittings for all your vacuum lines, heater hose, etc.

Stock TPI Bellows will fit just fine. Watch hood clearance. I dimpled the square on the hood by having the hose clamp for the bellows on the TB at the top most position. Move it to the side and everything clears fine.

Stock injectors fit fine.

Been a while but that's all I can think of right now.

Thanks for the input. I made an offer on one for sale on TGO and the guy asked for a cashiers check, no pay pal. I bought one from Jegs last night for 319.00. Also picked up the fuel rail kit with the AFPR.

Hope I dont have to cut the hood like some have had to for clearence.

It sounds like Paul has it covered. There was a bunch of small stuff that seemed to drag out my install. The beveled washers for the center intake bolts took me a good day to find. (and not pay $80). Tacoma Screw had them for like .50/pc. There are aftermarket rails available.

Supposedly comes with AFPR. I bought an aftermarket Kirban AFPR when the original Holley one went bad after ~4yrs of DD status.

There are misc issues; vacuum line hookup, coil mounting, MAP if you've got, etc.

I just got a set of stainless ARP intake bolts. Come with washers and awesome 12pt 3/8 head bolts.

I don't know about dlp, but my motor had the newer stock heads with the center 4 bolts at a different angle that required beveled washers so they bolt heads would sit flat on the manifold.

That's right. Bah to that anyways. Run several flat manifolds like the old style or HSR on newer heads with standard washers. LOL. Definitely a little ghetto but I never knew you could get beveled washers. Embarassed That's good info for doing it right! Rock on!

The heads that the HSR will be bolted to have the old style bolt pattern / angle. I guess I should purchase an intake bolt kit, the stock Torx headed bolts can be a pain to access.
Is it safe to assume that any standard SBC intake bolt kit will work, or is this another " special " kit that needs to be purchased?

The other major thing I need to purchase for this set up are fuel lines / adapters. Not sure what parts are needed.

I'm not worried about the vacumn lines and sensor mounting, most of the parts needed for this stuff can be purchased from Schucks or NAPA.

On a side note, the new AFR 195's for my 87 should be ariving next week. This is going to be a fun summer.

Do the heads for the HSR have center bolt valve covers? If so then you need the washers Ian is talking about.

Earls has the adapters to go from the stock fuel lines at the frame rail under the brake master cyl.... to go to -AN braided hose. The HSR comes with -6AN male ends. I think I used 135º -6AN to Hose fittings at the rail, ran the braided line behind the master cyl, around to the hard lines. Then I used 90º fittings there.

The heads that the HSR will be attached to are Trick Flows, perimeter bolt valve covers with 89 up intake bolt pattern, non self aligning rockers.
The SLP T-Ram side tanks sit halfway across the valve covers, with very little clearence. I spent alot of time looking for valve covers that were short enough to fit under the side tanks, but tall enough to clear the SS roller rockers. Lingenfelter had a set that worked but they were perimeter bolt pattern. I ordered the heads based on the valve covers.

If you're '87+ bolt pattern you need the washers.

The Holley Stealth Ram, intake gaskets, fuel rails, and....AFR 195's and gasket set arrived today. I am stoked, the parts look awsome.
I committed to helping the senior superintendent install a Keisler TKO 600 in his 69 Nova this weekend so installing this stuff will be at a later date. Two of the owners of the company I work for stuck it out with us today to. 9:00am to 11:00pm. Just another reason why I love the company I work for. Image two guys that are millionares getting there hands dirty wrenching on a Muscle car, cool.

Got to say that the Keisler kits are good, but damn, the runout on the bell housing was a bitch to measure and was off. Ever try finding offset dowels at 4:00pm on a Saturday afternoon? Didnt happen, tranny was installed anyway.

Make sure you check the pinion angle!

The TKO 500/600 I've installed in older cars needed the tunnel raised to maintain proper driveline angles.

Classic Motorsports is the big online seller and they sell kits with the crossmember, driveline, etc... And if the say no floor mods like they do for the First and 2nd gen Camaros, Tri Five Chevys, etc..... that means they cheated the crossmember down to clear the tunnel. Over half the time you end up with some kind of vibration. Plus the engine slopes back more and the dizzy gets closer to the firewall.

Something to be heads up about!

We cut out a 7" wide by 14" long slot, then cut out another 4" by 6" slot behind the first for the shifter body out of the floor pan. The kit came with peice of sheet metal to cover the larger holes. The tranny looked really small for a 5 speed and was light. I couldnt believe that that much floor pan had to be removed, but after bolting up the tranny and raising it up more than half the length of it stuck above the original floor pan. not by much, but enough to have to remove all of that material.

Anyone know of a shop in Snohomish or King county that would have a set of .007 off set bushing for aligning the bell housing?

Another problem we ran into is the starter wouldnt slide all of the way into the bell housing, 3/8" to long. The engine is out of a 99 Escalade, vortec 5.7, and the starter fit TH 350 that used to be in the car. The nose of the starter hits the bell housing.

Any suggestions for the correct starter to purchase?
