|
|
Well, poll says install the 4l60e, so now I got questions.
1. What rpm tq converter should I use? Factory 700r4 is around 1640. The s10 blazer is 1800, LS1 is 1425. I have a 350 TPI with headers. Any brands to stay away from?
2. If I read right, the shifter cable for 700r4 is same as 60e?
3. Flex plate. My motor is a crate motor, I ASSUME its internally balanced, so what year motors can I start looking for one of these?
4. Has anyone tried installing the deep fluid pan on a lowered 3rd gen?
5. Are the cooler/radiator lines the same threads and length? Get new or used?
I'm making a list of parts, and I need alot more parts then I thought, but I can make it work. _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

I'd just stay with stock. My 0.02

Yes, they are the same.

The flex plate for your motor should fit the torque converter.

yes, don't do it. I have one and it pokes down past the tranny by another 1.5 or so. I had to take mine off but it will work great on my tahoe. That thing has almost 3' of clearance

Some 4l60e's (impala i think) have larger cooling line passages. You might have to get adapters to use your stock cooling lines. I have some i can ship to you if you want. They are still on the junk transmission they go to. I also have 2 spare junk 4l60e's in the back yard if you need any weird parts.

They are all physically identical on the outside. |

Travis, will a 700r4 converter fit in the 60e bell/case?
You got a good trans pan? I need one. Dont think I need any other parts.... think is key word.
And I dont have a flexplate. I was asking so I know what years I can go get one from, rather then paying new price. |

The early 4l60e is the same as the 700r4. So not sure what year you are going to get but the early ones are physically the same thing. Here is the late 4l60e. Here is the early 4l60e. You would probably do best by getting a TC that matches your tranny. What year is the one you have?
It was a pain trying to get the shifter plate mounted to my LT1 car. It was a manual chassis so I had to cover the hole and make the brackets to mount the shifter. I never got it lined up quite right. I guess the kid I sold it too got lined up though.
I have 2 good 4l60e pans and a deep aluminum B&M pan. |

Mine came from a 2000 model. It also has a deep style pan with a hole punched in it to drain fluids. If I get a converter to match, that makes it an 1800 rpm.
calculating on that site. 70mph, I should be at 2150rpm. 1800rpm is 58-59mph. Is that a good spot? |

converters...
1995 LT1, 1568rpm (early 60e)
1991 TPI, 1639rpm (700r)
2000 LS1, 1425rpm (late 60e)
2000 4.3, 1800rpm (late 60e)
I actually like that LT1 range, damn close to the tpi one. Wonder if an early would interchange with a late? |

So is it a one piece case or two? They may have put an old tranny in the S10. You never know what chevy did If it's one piece I have parts for you. Heck, i could even send you valve bodies and solenoids just to make sure you get a passenger car setup instead of the truck. |

Don't think you're going to notice much on the converters.
I'd get ahold of Continental and tell them what you're doing and have them get you a converter to match your motor/gearing/transmission. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I think its a 2 piece. But I'll go look, I gotta pay the storage bill anyway.
Now I just thought mentioning of selnoids. Thats all controlled via the ecm/pcm. Wont the "locking up" also be controlled via it? Or you gotta have enough fluid pressure prior to the pcm making it lock up. IE, I have a 1425 converter, but the pcm wont lock it up tell 1650? (sorry if I sound stupid, Ive never done anything with an auto except change filter/fluid) |

Ya, sorry, can't help you at all.
You only need the shifter to column cable ifyou want the key lock there. that's all it does. |

| I have a converter (might not be the same 700 to 4l60 tho) flexplate, two coolers, and a temp gauge with no sender if you want 'em. |

I dunno if the 700r will fit or not. It is a diff part number, but that could just be for the rpm band.
What year did the flex plate come from?
Can I order just the sender on the gauge? Ive never looked. |

| Flexplate is one-piece RMS from my '87. Autometer sells replacement temp senders off of Summit. |
