Stock clutches will handle 250hp just fine. Get something better only if you plan on considerably more power. I'm using spec's second line. One up from stock and my axle twisted before the clutch slipped.

Paul is right, I ran that clutch when I first did the 5 spd in my car. It was fine until I did exhaust, that night it started to slip. Of course I do thing back asswards and probably picked up 50 hp at the wheels when I did exhaust. Smile

The clutch in my 89 is a Zoom Street/Strip. It was installed shortly after I bought the car. Takes a bit more effort than stock, but not too uncomfortable, unless you're at a very long red light

In which case you should be in neutral with your foot off the clutch to increase throw out bearing life! Thumbs up

That is the general practice, not only does it save the throw out bearing, but also the leg Very Happy

centerforce is nothing special. get a stocker, or get a spec. i have a spec lvl1 in my v6 car and that is a GREAT clutch. the centerforce in my GTA feels no different then a stock clutch, but the clutch in the little six takes the abuse.

do not get a parts store clutch.

Wha? Most are made by Valeo anyways. Same company that makes GMs friction, including the new ZR1. (which oddly enough is a Sachs PP and Valeo disc!)

Tony had one come apart remember.

But we see very few clutch returns. I'd definatly spend the few $$ extra for a new over a remanufactured though. The price difference is negligible for what you get.

Pressure plate for the Centerforce LT1 clutch and the parts store Blazer clutch were both stamped Valeo, as I recall. For whatever it's worth. Shrug

Being manufactured by the same company, does not equate to the same quality of matterials, quality of manufacturing, or quality control.

Not that I have any tech to bring, but I'm just saying.

As far as I could tell the centerforce pressure plates the same as stock, with the weights added. I think most of the upgrade is in the disc on those. Of course you can't see spring pressure either. I do know they're both Valeo. Most of the stuff is made in china now too.
