well my car has been idling at 2500 in park and 1500 in drive

i have no clue what the problem is, do you?

i can manually adjust the iac and make it go down and then just not plug it in

so i thought that was the problem, but i got a new one, and its the same, and they both move the same.

so anyone ever have a problem like this? or know what could possibly be the problem?

thanks

oh ya, its an 89 firebird v6 2.8

You might want to check the coolant temp sender next to the thermostat. I had a 1500rpm or so idle when warm, replaced the CTS and fixed the idle. It didn't throw any codes either.

How are you "manually" adjusting the IAC?

when you take it out, you can turn the shaft and it goes in and out....
idk if this is bad or not, but it sure makes driving alot easier when the idle is lower.
-and once i plug it back in, it goes back to where its suppose to be i guess

and i should be getting a coolant temp sender sometime soon to see if thats the problem.

High idle usually means air is getting in somehow. With a maf system that usually makes for rough running. Find someone with a scanner to see what the ECM sees for temp. Might try replacing the iac. And making sure the throttle isn't sticking open.

can someone tell me where this vacuum lines go?

the green line was just sitting there, going to nothing
the blue one was capped off by my dad years ago because he could not figure out where it went
and the red one actually goes somewheres, but that line is pretty rotted,
and where they all meet is a T

so could this be my problem?

It's possible.

The blue one I can't think of anything on that side it'd go to. How big is the line? Rubber or Plastic?

Do you have the vacuum routing diagram on your hood still?

The Green one goes to a big ball under the battery. It's the vacuum reservoir. If it's not hooked up, it needs to be. It keeps vacuum for cruise and your HVAC in the event you don't have any vacuum (IE car off or WOT)

Are those all connected at the back of the intake? I think the blue one either goes to the charcoal canister or to the air pump, the only 2 places on that side to hook up to on that side I think.

Here's a V6 diagram I "borrowed" from someone, I think it was Tony Very Happy

the blue one is rubber, like one of the little plastic ones could probably fit inside of it

vacuum routing diagram is gone off my original hood and the one i have on it now.

i found that canister thingy and plugged the green hose into it

only one goes to the back of the intake. i think this might help

green went under the battery, and the blue is the one i still don't know where it goes.

so if i fix something, would the change be immediate? or would it take a certain amount of miles to reset the system?

if you have a bad leak it's immediate. Looks like you do gave a map system so the high idle is most definitely a vacuum leak

is it possible for a vacuum leak to go away and come back randomly?

it used to like be normal then all of a sudden the idle would go really high, and then the next thing i knew ( a few days or weeks later), it was low again, that went on for a few months, and now it just stays at the high idle

thanks for all the info btw

If a crack in a rubber line opens and closes it might do that. Also a leaking brake booster can do that. Try pinching off the vacuum line going to the brake booster.. If your idle changes its shot.

i unplugged the hose to that and put my finger over it, no change, so i guess thats not my problem Sad

i have not had time to trace out all my vacuum lines yet, but would this seem like a vacuum leak?

it goes up like it would with the choke on, then it starts to go down a little bit, and then it shoots up to like 2500rpm.

(sorry for the upside down video....)
