This may need to go in the garage section, but since its not f-body I am putting it here.

Anyway, neighbors daughter has a 98 Rodeo. It has sprung a massive oil leak and check engine light is coming on. They have asked me to look at it tommorow night. I dont remember if its got the 4 or 6. Does anyone know of commen problems with these for the oil leak. She also said its not sounding normal either(surprised to me, last time she had a flat she drove 28 miles on it).

I'm thinking maybe a timing chain and cracked tc cover?

And for the ones who ask, the daughter is very young, cute from the rib cage up and way to much junk in the trunk down low. No I dont have pics.

The leak is probably at a seal.

Does that help? Laughing

If it's a big leak in a hurry... My first suspicion would be to look for the oil pressure sending unit. Typically a big leak is one that's "pumped" out rather than just leaking past a seal or gasket.

3.2L V6 or a 2.2L I4. A massive oil leak would need to be at a pressurized seal, so I'm with the oil pressure sender, distributor, rear, or front main. Or the giant hole in the oil pan Shocked DUN DUN DUUUUUUN!

I dont know which motor shes got.

I called back, and she said after being parked for 1.5 hrs, it created a half dollar to full dollar size puddle. Hell, thats what my "new" truck leaks Laughing

Its new enough, I dont think it has a dizzy, I think its coil pack?

while she drives like a grandma, Id like to say she doesnt hot rod it or take it off road. But then, it is a female, so no clue.

Probably just needs a tune up then. I could start a business with doing mobile car tune ups. Everyone neglects the ignition system until it starts acting up.

Ok, well blue eyes just left. So much oil and dirt splashed everywhere neither I or her step dad could find where it was coming from. So I pressure washed it, put a new belt on, checked plugs. Told her to bring it back in a week. Just keep an eye on it tell then and check her oil (she actually half way knows how, she explained it to me Shocked )

It appears the biggest mess is down by the oil filter. But I left the thing running for about 10 min after washing it. Then let it sit for over an hour. I saw nothing :shrugs:

I have had a filter work lose before. if its been a few hundred miles might simply check that the filter is still tight

I asked that, she said it was about a month ago or so. I also asked if she had put oil in it recently. She said they added 2bottles(lol) over the weekend.

Filter looked good.
