just thought i'd throw some pics up and see what you guys thought of it.
it's a GM Small block, 434ci, SB2.2 heads, custom one off blower manifold, calies chrome crank, billet aluminum rods, malhe pistons.....
were have a 1271 roots blower for it. were going to run it on alcohol at 24psi and see what kind of fun we can have.

Heads are giving you the impression. You can actually see its a 509 sb 400 block in the one pic. These heads have canted valves like a bb. But if you look at the exhaust ports the center 2 are still together like a sb. On a bb they're all equally distant. |

yeah it's just a small block. the intake was actually really easy. i bought myself one of those nascar spider manifold blanks from GMPP, then took it to the band saw and cut the plenum off the runners. took some sheetmetal and made the plug for the runners, then welded'er up! and the inside welds weren't too bad, i welded the blower plate on last. but i just TIG welded it with a 3/16 tungston, and alumi-mix instead of argon. _________________ 1992 Camaro 1LE Z28 |

Yeah the 2.2 heads are some cool bits of kit. Really if you buy them used, the prices aren't that bad. I would really like to do something with a set, or even a pair of 18* GMPP heads.
Are the 2.2's a 15* valve angle?

yeah the stuff is cheap for what you get! i started buying the stuff on Ebay a while back. i have a 3 complete sets of heads, with rockers, 2 blocks(both are O-Ringed w/billet splayed mains), and enough parts for 2 complete motors, plus a spare set of heads. so we can run the car all weekend without tearing down a motor. _________________ 1992 Camaro 1LE Z28 |

that's just how it came out of the mold. it's supposed to be an 78' vette... they look alot better painted. and when the body work gets done it'll be rounded a little more. _________________ 1992 Camaro 1LE Z28 |

| I got the body design. So can you bolt a normal vette front to it then? |

| In my previous post I said the valves were canted.. looking at those heads, it looks like they're just offset. The 2.2s have canted or just offset valves? |

Going in conjunction with Brandon's post;
Is there some kind of power advantage to the way the valves are spaced in the head for airflow/velocity? _________________

Look at how big the ports are and the design. The ports run straight into the valve and there isn't much clearance for any other kind of design.
I'm sure they are some giant valves, so you'd want the intake valve towards the intake a bit to clear the bore of a SBC.
The staggering of valves is kinda like the VW "W" engines. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Don't you think A 12-71 is a little overkill on a small block? I bet you'd make more power on an 8-71.
Either way, makes my M90 look like a dot on the map  _________________ 1998 Grand Prix GT | 12.91 @ 103 - Sold/Retired

well that's what i thought at first too. but we are running 434 cubes..... and 14:1 compression, on alcohol, at 24PSI, and spinging the damn thing 10,000 RPM. i know, i know. it sounds a little crazy. but i wanna go fast. plus at the march meet in bakersfeild, and the nightfire in boise, i'm gonna be running the car on nitro. not like 98% or anything crazy, just enough to here it cackle, and have 6' header flames _________________ 1992 Camaro 1LE Z28 |
